I have a 1989 f250 7.3 4x4 5spd with gasser gears. I take off in 2nd, and with moderate throttle see 3-5psi at 2000rpm. No visible soot at exhaust joints, and a small puff of black smoke on take-off. Have not timed it, starts and runs well, but may be too retarded as it is quieter than I think it should be.

boost isn't rpm specific.it's engine load variable.id say your about right with moderate take off speed running empty with a srw pickup.

all depends on fueling, timing, condition of turbo, condition of hot and cold wheels, exhaust leaks, boost leaks. I would say you are about right though for starting out in second. What do you get when you start out in 1st?
