Back to the question about rebuilding parts: believe it or not, Pep Boys and O'Reilly's (for that matter, most any auto parts store) can get the brushes and bushings, for much less than fleabay. Most independents will have the stuff on the shelf. There are also alternator/starter rebuilding places everywhere, most of them will sell parts to DIYers. I got a solenoid for $7 from one a few years ago.
