The Amsoil Premium API CJ-4 Oils DEO 5W-40 & DME 15W-40 have been upgraded with a higher TBN level and and now recommends 3x the OEM recommended drain interval.

This is great news for those newer LMM, Dodge 2007+, and Ford 6.0/6.4 PSD owners. Not wanting to start an oil debate just want to keep you all up to date on the latest news from Amsoil.

Here is an article for you,

Thanks for the info Dane.

Does this mean the only real improvement to the oil is an oil that is cleaner longer? Anything new that provides better lubrication (e.g. molybdenum)?

Amsoil provides some of the best lubrication on the market!

Here is something to know about Amsoil they are the overall best in the catagory of full Synthetics , but not the best in all catagories.

Whattttttttt????????? cookoo

Why is that? I hear you asking.

Because the best lubrication product in the synthetic catagory is the best compromise. You will see (even in test paid for by Amsoil) oils that are the best in one catagory but then drop far or even fail miserably in other catagories. When you add more of one additive to perform in one catagory it takes away from or hurts another. Amsoil believes it is better to be near the top in all catagories than be the top in one. So overall it boils down to a compromise and sacrafice in some catagories to be good in all catagories. There is one catagory you won't ever see Amsoil beat in and thats the wear test. If you look at 4 ball wear testing where an Amsoil product is involved they will always be the top finisher in that catagory. To me its a very important catagory to be tops in.

OK so back to your question about extra additives to provide better lubrication ie: moly.

They changed the additive pack slightly and raised the Total Base Number TBN from 8 to 10.4. The TBN is really what a lab is looking for to tell if your additive pak is done or can go longer with that oil. When the TBN gets to a point where its too low the lab will tell you its time to change. The TBN says its time to change becuse the additive pak has lost its strenght which is in part the reason wear particles such as soot, copper, iron, calcium are suspended in the oil to get trapped (hopefully) by your filter. They have strengthened the entire additive pak to last longer which is a down fall of a CJ-4 rated oil. The TBN starts at a lower level than the CI-4 oils. This new formulation brings the DEO & DME oils up closer to the CI-4 rated oils.
