How many of you guys ever seen the tin plate behind the water pump rust through or badly pitted?

I have one from a spare engine that really has some cavitation and pitting in it. Happens when you don't run quality antifreese...

almost every single one i've seen has been pitted. when i did my water pump, i smeared a Reinzosil onto the holes just to be safe. I have replaced a few that have etched through and its NLA.

i gave mel one at the last rally that was almost threw.

I was noticing mine last night has all sorts of funny swirl marks on it - like Damascus steel kind of. No pitting or deep etching though.

That comes from running antifreeze forever as well as using poor antifreeze. The plate on my grandpas truck with 3/4 of a million miles on it was still smooth like the day it was made.
