Air Intake Popping

This may be a weird question or may be not. I resently was driving my 97' F350 and a popping sound started to come out the air intake. Just as suddenly the noise started it went away. Any ideas at to what mught be causing this???

i didn't think PSD's had that problem....if it comes and goes, you have a valve hanging up. IDI's had an issue with valve guides....how many miles do you have on the motor?

There's roughly 167000 miles on it. I bought it used with about 150000 miles.

I had this on my truck about a year and half ago, a bolt broke on the rocker arm, the push rod on the exhaust valve came off the rocker arm, the sound comes back through the air filter, nothing was damaged on my truck and push rod didn't bend, whether the bolt failed or got loose over time, guess I'll never know.
