Hello,
Newbie here, I had a 96 IH 4700 w/444 engine cab caught on fire it's now trashed bought it new not many problems. Now I'm replacing it I'm using it for my roofing business 26000 GVW will be driven twice a day to the job in the morning (after dumping it) and back to the shop at night 5000 miles a year. I can buy a used 2000 Chevy 6500 with a cat 3126 with 45,000 miles on it with a brand new dump body, truck is a southern truck used between military bases (so I'm told) looks mint and the dealer say's all is good with the truck. Or I can buy a used cab & chassis 2007 IH 4300 with DT466 air brakes and seat with 195,000 miles a used Penske truck very clean southern truck, I have the last 3 years maintenance records it shows replacement of camshaft at 160,000 miles other than that since 127,000 has had oil changed every 10,000 new brake linings at 159,000 new clutch at 193,000 changed power steering filter at 189,000 and 159,000 the dealer where it's at is going to put reman. trans in it because it pops out of second gear when you let your foot off the gas all other gears are fine. If I buy IH I could have the dump body built to my specs although the other one is almost perfect. My main concern is down time in the shop. I do not have a back up truck so I don't want to buy a truck that will be in the shop more than at the job site. What are your thoughts and opinions. Thanks in advance to anyone that takes the time to chime in. Should I be worried about the camshaft, did they have to rebuild anything else when replacing it????
