I think the 7.3 IDI engine stopped it's run in late '93 or early '94, but the new Powerstroke 7.3 began in that year.

From what i've found, the early '90's trucks with the Turbo IDI engine had a decal that said "Turbo Diesel" on the front fenders.

Once they stopped the IDI engine, and started putting in the new Powerstrokes, the decal was switched to a sticker that said "Powerstroke"

Am I correct on this???:dunno

02 was the last year for the 7.3 PSD. I have one, and it is a good strong engine, but the superduty body makes working on it a chore, and God help you if you have a major problem like I just did and can't afford either the time or effort to fix it yourself. I just forked over $1500 for a cracked injector sleeve. 3 days in the shop at the Ford dealer with a damn good mechanic who knew what he was doing. That's the most I've ever spent on a vehicle repair. EVER! And that was getting off cheap. Basically owning a PSD means buying a new IDI every time you have a problem.

yes the repair costs are considerably higher on the newer trucks...but it's worth it ;)

if you go with a manual trans you eliminate a big source of potential repair costs.

Forgive me, but would you take that silly PowerStroke talk to a more appropriate forum?
OUR 7.3 stopped production in 94.5. Around here, we don't talk about that other stuff. :)

as as far as repairs, some are costly, but alkot of new gas powered vehicles are also costly to repair

I meant to post this originally: I posted this in the IDI forum on purpose to get the best response. I should have asked the mods to leave it......

At this point I know who is a BS'er and who actually knows what they are talking about in the IDI portion of this forum. Many guys own IDI and powerstrokes so its not that much of a stretch.

Too bad it got moved......there isnt as much traffic in the powerstroke forum...

Thanks anyhow guys!!!

2003 was the transition year from 7.3PSD to 6.0PSD..much like 1994 was the transition year from IDI to PSD. both engines were available those years.

The 7.3 was offered up untill January 1st 2003, so any model year 2003 trucks where built before that if they had the 7.3. The biggest reason for the 6.0's introduction, and the CR Cummins, was for emmissions.
