I have a 1996 f350 and it has a bad skip, no power and a lot of blueish smoke out of the exhaust. it starts up quick and almost no blow by. no codes come up and I did an injector buzz test, it sounded good but at the end of the test an IDM fault code came up. is that most likely the problem? or are there some other tests I can do? im just not sure if its an injector or maybe the valve cover harness has gone bad.

thanks. my scanner is a verus edge.

I forgot to look at that. I had one truck with it stuck and it had different symptoms.

This one has a very bad skip and lots of smoke, along with no power.

I checked a few things, the IPC read 1.10v at idle and the fuel or oil was at 650ish psi at idle. any thoughts?

You can pull the valve covers to see if all injectors are firing. Should have oil coming out the spout.
Also look at the base of the injectors for leaks.

the two back came out. the front one is the stub above. the one that is intact in the head is REALLY tite. I got it to move but im afraid to go much more. the broken one is the same way, it is loose but very hard to turn.

im thinking of just leaving them. if they break and the tips fall into the piston I wont be a happy camper...

Well....... My documentation says head removal is in order....
Some said try a strong magnet.
But there's a guide plate over the top of them, so I don't see how that would work.

I did notice the plate or guide the pushrod goes through looks a little jumbled up. im not sure where the other part of the pushrod went.

is this a common problem? I have never seen it before.

anything else I should look out for or do while I am there?

thanks for the info and help.

a couple things came to mind, can I reuse the head bolts? can I leave the injectors in place or is it safer to remove them? should I get a motorcraft HG or would felpro work?
