So I'm sure I'll take some heat for posting this in the IDI section, but let's face it: you guys are the smartest, most experienced, and charming group on this site 
My buddy does a bunch of beach fishing and is looking at an 89 E250 Ford van. Here's what I know: it was a former fiber optic work truck, it's got an Onan powered generator, roof top a/c, 6 cylinder automatic, and it's been pristinely maintained.
Here's my simple list of questions for the "Van Ninjas":
What trans should that have in it?
What really wears in the front end suspension?
Relative fuel mileage to expect?
Any other notorious issues for this generation Ford E250?
