I recently had my alternator rebuilt on my 88 f350 n/a idi, and my voltage gauge was still at 9v so I replaced the external regulator. This brought it up to about 13.7v at idle. When driving with the headlights on, the gauge drops slightly but once I turn the a/c on with the blower on Hi it drops to the red line on 8v even while going down the highway with the engine at 2000rpm.
Could this be bad batteries draining too fast for the alternator to charge them? Or something else?

Glad it was a simple R&R job. Nice to be able to watch the gauge and not worry.
