88 7.3 C6 flywheel?????

ok so this thing has a dual mass flywheel in it.and its a knockin!!!!i never seen a dmf on an automatic before.is there a way to upgrade to the newer flywheel for the e4od?anybody happen to have one kickin around thats good?

betcha he's talking about the outer two ton turkey flywheel/ringgear and the inner torque convertor pie plate.
if you do want to go to the later unit, you will need the spacer, flexplate/ringgear, and updated torque convertor.

That's my thought's too. It does appear large enough to have the thickness of the DMF.

I wonder if it's starting shearing the bolts off the crank causing the banging from being imbalanced.

That "pie plate" is no longer available from Ford. I did a search and found the last one... Bought it right away. I do have several used complete heavy setups too. Why you ask.... I don't really know.. But I have them....:D The neet part of the heavy wheel is the ring gear can be heated up and removed or just clocked around some so you have new teeth for the starter to use... Thes motors start and stop on 3 places on the wheel... Not a really good idea. Probably has something to do with the fireing order. 1 2 7 3 4 5 6 8....

anyway i can drill it and nut/bolt it together?weld it?i cant find one anywhere and its driving me nuts listening to it

Rich this thing weigths 36# it is 2inches thick laying on the bench . the fly wheel is cast but the plate the torqueconverter bolts to is maby 1/8 thick tin , It dosent have any springs or friction discs like a ZF 5 flywheel. for $15.00 shiping its all yours . I cant find any cracks and the ring gear seems decent ED PM your address and ill ship it
