I just bought 1990 7.3 in an #350 econoline. Supposedly 150,000 miles on it. I ran it 50 miles to my house and it ran like it didnt have much power at all. I parked it up for a week while I took care of other matters. A week later I cant get the thing to come close to turning over. So far I have put on a new fuel filter, two new batteries, a new glow plug relay and new glow plugs. It tries like hell to start but doesnt. It wont even turn over for a brief moment.
Problem 1: The starter I believe was rewired because there are two wires running from around the ignition down to the starter. Both of these wires are on the same bolt as the cable running from the battery. When I try to start it I get alot of smoke from these wires. Maybe a drip but nothing more. I've been on the computer every night but I cant seem to find any sort of wiring diagram. I know these wires are wrong. One of them Im sure goes to the push button start because that no longer works. Any idea on where I could find a diagram of how these wires are suppose to go would be much appreciated.
Problem 2: I dont think I'm getting any fuel to my injectors. Also when I turn the key and try to start it I noticed that no fuel seems to be coming into the injector where I loosened the fitting. So I'm not getting any fuel or is this because its not turning over?
