Some of you may remember my thread from this fall describing the troubleshooting that I went through on my friends 97 PSD.....A no start caused by a severely corroded PCM.....It worked great all winter with the brand new PCM until last week - now it's stalling when you pull away from a stop under light/heavy throttle or when you start up a steep grade. We replaced the cam sensor last night - it was new 3-4 months ago any how. He drove it to work today, it's fine when it's cold but it starts to act up when it's all warmed up....He had severe stalling issues when he left for home today and he luckily made it about 40km to his house when it finally crapped out in his driveway and now it won't start period.....His driveway is really steep up from the street.....

I'm thinking it's a bad IDM, possibly full of water - it just happens to be raining hard here today and it acted up right from the time he left work so it wasn't even up to temp yet....I'm trying to locate a test PDM for it.....Anyone else have any thoughts?....He had 70psi of fuel pressure when I checked it last fall and 400-500psi of HUEI pressure while cranking.....He wants to sell it - seriously - this was his first diesel and he's had nothing but electrical issues from the day he bought it....There is under 100,000KM on this truck.....Maybe he will buy my 91...

The spare IDM didn't help, it's being towed to my place for further diagnosis.....I think I could talk him into an IDI swap at this point.:D

So I got it running this morning - I can make it stall as he described, if you punch the throttle from idle it will pull for about 2 seconds and die.:dunno....I can see this being a nightmare...LOL.....It will only do it when it's hot too.....I tried a test IDM, samething..I tried a cam sensor too, same thing....It will do it every time....I guess I have to dig deeper. I'm going to try driving it with the ICP unplugged.

I think I have the flickering lights issue fixed - dirty power feed at the fender relay. I will be off all week so I will play with it and try to figure it out.

Hmm, sounds like a IPR issue, or possibly a weak HPOP. Very weird considering it's a low mile unit...
It's almost as ugly as my 96... LOL

The IPR is a year old....I have a CAT 6000psi line and gauge kit so I'm going to make it stall while I watch the HUEI pressure.....I quit my job yesterday so I have some time this week to work on it before I find another place to wrench...LOL....I had enough of Waste Management and their idiotic ways so I loaded my tool box in my truck and left.:moon:

All fixed.:D....I made some time for it today - I found one code for the IPR and I watched the live data on the scanner as I played with it...The HUEI pressure was jumpy and erratic....The light above my head came on and I checked the chaep ass sheet metal nut on the IPR - it was off and laying on the valley pan....Nothing a magnet and 2 screw drivers couldn't fix in short order.;Sweet.....Running like a top again and Brian is happy as a pig in **** for a low cost repair.....One more out of my yard...:rotflmao

He has a **** load of southern sheet metal for it - the box he found is absolutely mint - it must have been a new take off. He traded my cousin a 427 Ford big block for it in need of a rebuild - no **** - I was fondling it the other day in an attempt to weasel it from my cousins death grip....:D:rotflmao
