So I'm getting ready to start updating my 7.3 PowerStroke, and I'm looking for some general advice on two basic fronts: stock injector build and (potentially) a Stage 1 injector upgrade. I was a very tried and trued IDI user until recently, however, after riding in a bunch of the 99 and newer PowerStrokes and a couple of Excursions, I decided that I'd look for an OBS 7.3 PowerStroke and then shoot for an intercooled/updated version that made decent towing power, got reasonable fuel mileage (my buddies Excursion knocks down 20 all the time with his foot out of it) and was dependable.

I know that I've got to go intercooled to get what I want (already picked one up) but I don't see a ton of build info on the OBS PowerStrokes, although I know there are several members running them on here. If there's a sister site, or maybe another site were I can get some reasonable build ideas, I'd appreciate a point in the right direction.

Please let me know your thoughts, and as always thanks.

Is yours auto or manual?

Rosewood has good injectors.
Beans diesel does.

I'm in the same boat with my 94PSD.

Just gotta get some money saved up.

As you may already know, only get a custom tuned chip. Not a programmer.

Bigger downpipe.
6637.

List goes on and on and on.

Rich,

What about the 17* HPOP? Would that benefit him much with stock or stage 1 injectors?

Rich,

I'm running a Terminator T500 17* pump on mine with Stage 1.5's from Rosewood. (see my sig truck) All I can say about them is that I love the power of the injectors, nice clean burn and plenty of "go" when I want it without the smoke. The 17* pump will just keep the 1.5's happier and not starve them of high pressure oil like the stock 15* could at WOT. It's cheap insurance to make sure your injectors are supplied with all the oil they want/need. It would be completely unnecessary with stock injectors, because an HPOP can't increase any power on it's own; it just supplies oil to bigger injectors. And technically with a known-good 15* pump you can run Stage 1's without issues, but I had 210k miles on my engine and planned on upgrading anyway so I went with the bigger HPOP. It actually cost me less than most of the stock replacements I was looking at, so going with a T500 was a no-brainer for me.

I do sell the MFE injectors, at whatever horsepower level you want in 25HP increments. Once you get to 100HP over stock, your going to need more oil. I have an HPOP for that as well. A turbo upgrade is a great option, and I carry the Garrett Powermax ball bearing units, which kick butt over a stock journal bearing turbo, even with a wheel upgrade. To run one, you need to update your motor to the 99 and later exhaust and turbo configuration, which includes the up pipes (switch to the bellows style, and ditch the slip joint one) collector Y and intake runners and associated parts. An Edge CTS programmer with all that stuff, and you would be really happy with the outcome.

Welcome to the Oilburners.
But what the heck does all that mean above?
It has nothing to do with this thread.
