There are 2 things I think I would have to do before I ever tried pulling. One would be to install a locking rear. If you don't have one, I wouldn't do it. Nothing wastes the fans time more than trying to pull with 1 or 2 wheel (for a 4X4) drive. In fact, I've seen the announcers make the mistake of assuming you broke, since they don't see a wheel on their side "contributing". The other thing I would do is throw in some new U-joints and a drive shaft hoop. If your gonna break it, there is a 50% chance or better that it's going to be in the U-joints, especially if you start hopping. But yea, other than that, you should be able to drive it home. Some things you could plan for to increase your chances of surviving the outing... Assuming you have 4 wheel drive, consider the possibility that you could bust something in the rear axle. Make some block off plates, and if this happens you can simply disconnect the rear drive shaft, pull the axles out, put the block off plates on the hubs, and drive home in front wheel drive mode. Also, take a good look at your hitch, and what kind of insert you plan on using. I've seen guys use ungodly long inserts, and when they are going down the track I am cringing watching that sucker bending down and twisting their hitch up like it was clay. Remember that at most tracks, just about everybody does fine until the weight transfer box gets to the other side of the wheels and drops the pan. You will really need some speed by the 75' mark so you can use momentum to get you those few extra feet. Remember, the audience usually is more respectfull of a solid pull that ends well, then a pull that breaks early, ties up the track, and makes it clear that you obviously don't belong out there. Good luck!
