6.9 diesel stall

Could someone give me a reason why my 6.9 International dies when I let off the throttle to shift gears? The engine sets at idle just fine. The stall happens only after the engine is coming down from higher RPM.

Sticking metering valve, low transfer pressure.

He's right. Your metering valve is sticking. It's in the IP.

Try curing it in the simplist way. Pull the fuel filter off and empty it. Fill it with ATF and put it back on. Start the engine and let it run until it sounds a bit different, maybe about 30 seconds. Then let it sit overnight, with the ATF in the IP. The next morning take the truck for a ride. Drive it like you stole it.

This will often cure a sticking metering valve, though not every time

BTW, when you pour the ATF into the fuel filter, pour it through the outer ring of holes. That will insure that the filter will filter the ATF, just in case...

This. I got another year out of my IP before I sent it away to get turned into a moose. It still worked fine at that point but I wanted the upgrade.
