I'm thinking of swapping my 4.10 with a 3.55 axle. I'm wondering if that's too much for a E4OD to handle. I don't really tow anything worth mentioning although I've been known to haul 3,000 lbs of construction debris every once in a while.

Has any one ever done the swap?

I have 3.55 stock and usually hual 4-7000 lbs. of equipment and materials. I get about 12.5 miles to gallon loaded.

I'd do it Carl! That 4.10 is great if you have a 9000 pound camper to pull, but I'll take the 3.54's for fuel economy, lower RPM's and longer life any day. That pop up you have is not a problem at all.

i've got 3.55's,i tow once in awhile and only thing i dont like is the 2nd to direct shift,it seems like a big jump the old girl winds out in 2nd and then drops into direct and about falls on it face.
but for normal driving it's great 18-20 mpg in the summer ;Sweet :D
