91 7.3 w/"factory" ATS - 2nd owner ... 165k miles and transmission started to slip (had been used as a heavy towing vehicle previously) so went w/overhaul. ~1k post-overhaul and it started stalling in R and D ... back to transmission shop and they found new torque converter was bad ... replaced. Drove another ~ 1k and started stalling again in R ... the rig is back in the TRANS shop now w/likely a new TorConv required (guessing). Any thoughts here on E4OD TorConv ideas to upgrade and/or avoid this? Maybe I'm wrongly assuming E4OD was a bullet-proof tranny? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The E4OD by no means is a bullet proof transmission. There are some parts that can be updated to be more reliable, any reputable transmission shop would know to check for those.

When you say she's stalling, is the transmission failing to go into gear, or is the engine stalling? Could be two very different issues, but as these trucks age, I'm more inclined to believe it is a wiring isssue over a hardware issue.

I would not spend another $10 at that shop. I’d find a way to get my money back and never return. Transmissions are not hard for a reputable shop. Tear it all out. Put in basic upgrades/shift kit and a good TqC and put it back together. If the customer wants more they can ask for it. This is a shop issue not a trans or parts issue.

The racerx converter is pretty well accepted as the best drop in converter. It’s what I have in my turbo build.

The E4OD out of the box is tough, not bullet proof. If you want bullet proof you will need some $$$$. Did the shop go through the pump or replace it. Low pressure will cause clutch drift. Either the pump or converter is bad.

I second the Racer X converter.
