I have a 1990 F350 2 door 4x4 7.3 IDI manual transmission that went bad. Got a 1996 F350 Powerstroke manual transmission. Is this a direct swap? I notice that the way the rear drive shaft connects is different. Will the 96 driveshaft work in the 1990?

Sure would! If anything slap on your tcase and use the same driveshaft. Dimensions are the same for the zf5's

My old on is pretty beat up and leaky. The newer one looks real nice. My only concern is that the old drive shaft slips in and the newer one bolts onto the round plate which I prefer. So I guess my question is, is the newer shaft compatible with the older rear end and the correct length and is the newer shaft a one piece shaft like the older one?
