Hello to all you oil burners, new guy here i am looking at buying a 85 2 wheel drive crew cab dually 6.9 Auto/ A/C Cruise Tilt 120000 original miles aparently, CA truck solid as a rock no rust 6 new tires ,owner says it has 7.3 glow plugs in it ? glass bottom /fuelwater seperator. when i drove it at 65 it was about 4200 RPM, is that to high RPM for 6.9 and i imagine at that it would get not very good fuel economy and how high can they safely rev to. he wants 3500 for the truck is that a good deal and what should i look for that might cause trouble down the road.

Cheers
James:cheers:

4200 seems way high. I am pretty sure they are governed around 3300. Oh yeah and i have the same truck. Only i have converted mine to 4wd.

I didn't think that they would even rev that high. I have always had manuals but I never let the revs get over 3300 or so.

My 85 CC 4x4 dually with 4.10 gears and a C6 tranny does about 2900 rpm at 65 (without using the O/D).
