Are the pinions cut with different length splines, or do only the yokes have longer splines? Trying to find out if I need to only replace a yoke or the gearset as well. Thanks!

To go from a short-spline to long-spline setup(I'm guessing?) yes, the spline length on the gearset is longer.

I'm pretty sure the splines on the pinion shaft is longer to accommodate the longer yolk

You can put a short spline yoke on a long spline pinion. That’s how it’s set up in my truck after I regeared. I also used a ratech crush sleeve eliminator

Physically it is possible however it will not be good for the axle. The yolk isn't long enough to keep preload on the bearing and will eventually cause the pinion to fall into the pumpkin damaging everything in the internals. This is why I had to rebuild the 10.25 in my jeep
