Hi all,
I have some quirky electrical issues:
1. My horn works only when the lights are off.
2. Sometimes the rear, backup light and interior light stay on when I have the lights on. And the little rotating switch thing doesn't turn them off.
3. Headlights seem dim, but I've seen the...

I think he means this stuff is for our engines, even though he put IDI and Powerstroke in the same sentence!:backoff
Hi all,
I have the rear end apart and I took one of the hubs off the shaft to look at it and this seal came apart and I'm having trouble finding a replacement. I have dual rear wheels and this seal looks like it is in three pieces: an outer dust seal and an smaller inner piece that lays...
Hi all,
I have been trying to time my engine and the local shops all want to time by ear and don't have the meter to time it. I bought a Snap-on MT480 on ebay but it didn't come with the luminosity probe, so that went nowhere. Anyone have one that they would be willing to send to me to use...
Hi guys,
There has been a lot of discusion lately about a/c problems. I am overhauling my system and I'm looking at getting a new parallel flow condenser. I have found one that is 14X25. Does this sound like a good size? I know RLDSL was getting one put in his ride, I just didn't catch what...
Hi all,
I am pleased to announce that after 10 months of the truck being down for an engine rebuild, I fired her up yesterday! Only problem so far is that I broke a piece off the fuel transfer switch, its the fuel return line that broke off. I looked up a replacement and it's like $100. There...
Having trouble finding this part locally. I've tried Ford and they said it is discontinued. Parts stores don't seem to carry it. Is this a standard size o-ring that I can get somewhere. Also, it's red, what material is it? Thanks in advance.

I am working on putting the engine back together after a total rebuild. Should I get a new harmonic balancer or put the old one back on? I read somewhere that they can wear out. Thanks all.

I checked the block I got from a place in Texas and it has pitting in the cylinder walls! What's stupid is that they had it sent to a machine shop to have it honed before they sent it to me and they honed over the pits. So they had to have seen that when they were working on it. Now I'm looking...
Hi all,
It's kind of hard to search for topics about rods because the search ignores the word rod. So I've been trying to get together a good set of rods but I've noticed that there are a lot of different ones based on the stamped markings. I'm just talking about the idi non-turbo rods here...
I'm torqued about how much the machining work is turning out to be on this rebuilding project. I've gotten some prices on work to be done and I'd like to see if others have similar prices or not.
Magnaflux and polish crank $65
Bush rods and pin fit pistons, between $125-210, 3 different...
Do I need to change out the bearings in the top of the connecting rods? I don't see these things listed in the typical list of replacement parts. Thanks for the help guys!

So I have been having trouble finding a replacement for my blown 7.3L and now I'm thinking I can find a block and rebuild using some old parts and some new parts. So what's worth spending the cash on? Hypermax has pistons, rings, gaskets, rods, etc. Are these better than the standard stuff from...
Hi all,
I have pretty much struck out on the cheap engine search so I am now looking at getting a short block and refurbishing/reusing the rest from the old engine. The dealership has the 7.3L N/A short block for $2500. Does anyone have a better price on this? The main thing is that they are...
After inspecting the heads, I have found that my prechambers have cracks in them that are longer than the 3/16" allowable (according to the Techbook on diesel engine repair). I can't seem to find a source for these. Anyone?

So I don't know how many are following this but I threw a rod and I have been working on the engine to see what happened. So I now have the heads off and the broken piston out. Three things of note:
1. There was a lot of particulate matter on top of the piston. It's the piston in the back on...
Well, I posted this over on the IDI forum already, but I'll try again here. I threw a rod and need another engine. There is one in Dayton TN that I'd really like it's only three hours from me (Birmingham AL) but I can't haul it with my other vehicle (Escort). Can anybody help? Thanks in advance...
So I have a hole in my block. Why does that matter? The hole is right above the oil pan. Is this area pressurized? Why can't I just fill it with a plug of something heat-resistant and move on? I must be missing something very fundamental...

Hey guys. I currently have a couple of offers for engines from other members and I would like to feel out the possibility of delivery via the BOOB express. Two engines are in Illinois and one is in Tennessee. I live right off I-65 in Birmingham, AL. Would anyone be travelling this route? Thanks...
So after getting the engine out (I threw a rod a few weeks ago), I dug around in the oil pan. Can anyone tell me what these parts are?

Well, I was travelling down the road and I heard an awful noise from the engine and it shut off. I kicked it out of gear and rolled to a stop. I checked the oil and there was no oil on the dipstick. I do have a pretty bad oil leak from the front seal and I haven't topped it off in a while. I ran...
Hi all,
I have been searching and searching and I cannot find the diagnostic connector. There are a lot of connectors that have two wires in the wheel well! I don't see and that have a black/orange wire. In the Chilton manual they even have a (tiny) picture of where it is supposed to be and I...
Hello to all,
I have a problem with my fast idle solenoid. It wasn't working so I read on here about how to test it and adjust it, but it seems like it doesn't have enough force to push against the throttle. If I hold the throttle out of the way it will push out but with the throttle resting...
Hi there,
I'm new here and have been reading through as much as possible about the 7.3L IDI and have gotten a lot of great info so far. Got the coolant additive, changed the glowplugs to Beru's. Now I think it needs a new clutch and I want to go with the Luk clutch and solid flywheel. Don't...
