I was going to pull the trigger on a 4 core champ but wound up repairing my factory rad. Shop I used was called Active Radiator, I believe its a franchise and they are scattered about the country. Might be worth a look!
update- tone ring was damaged. I replaced it and it fixed the speedo.
However, I still get the OD light coming on when I reverse uphill (my driveway) and cut the wheel to back onto the street. Soon as I put it in drive, the light goes off. gping to replace the MLPS next.
Finally got around to replacing my radiator core support while I was waiting on parts to rebuild the rear end. I bought a Tru cool transmission cooler to upgrade the smaller one that came on the truck and the thing is a monster. Not as big as the 6.0 cooler, but it should be a significant...
Same here. Little intimidating but it’s pretty simple stuff once you get started.
I’m guessing the clutches wear down and no longer keep enough tension on the guides. Odometer has 317k so who knows what was done to this rig before me
I’m able to get a good look at the pinion bearing and it’s intact. I’ll look again this week but I'm leaning towards a retaining clip for the clutch pack slipped out and got mangled. I’ll keep ya posted
There’s just too much metal to be from the worn bearings. The bigger piece is there is concave. Someone has suggested it might be a washer from the spider gears or from the LS clutch pack but everything looks intact
This is the first I’ve been in it since I bought it a couple years ago. It’s obviously been neglected. What are the chances the pinion bearings look like this? Driver side differential bearing is shot, passenger side looks new.
I still can’t figure out where the metal chunks came from. A...
I’m kinda piggybacking off my post about chasing an OD light in my 92 F250. Popped off the differential cover to check out the tone ring, which looks like it has a couple burrs on some teeth. Found metal chunks in the sump. I’m guessing this is what damaged the tone ring. Ring and pinion look...
I think the rear is due for a fluid change so I’ll just get messy this next weekend I’m off. I have a sneaking suspicion that the tone ring might have damaged teeth.
Found this information while looking for a PSOM rebuild. This is exactly what’s going on with my Speedo. 50-70 mph and it’s just a slight wiggle.
So I guess in need to pop off the differential cover and inspect some things?
The first VSS was a dorman. So I replaced it with a motorcraft one last week. So I’m thinking it’s working. I also replaced the pigtail bc the wiring looked old. Plenty of room for flex. I’ll add that when it throws this code in reverse it makes a shuddering sound and vibrates pretty good.
Thank you for chiming in. I have some reading up to do on this PSOM. Another problem that I have that I can replicate with this OD light is that when I reverse straight back the truck is fine and there no light. Soon as I cut the wheel and turn in reverse that light comes on. Goes off soon and I...
92 with an auto has been giving me codes since the day I bought it. Light isn’t on all the time. So far the tach sensor and VSS have both been replaced. Yet I keep getting 29, I even spliced in a new pigtail since the old wiring was looking grim. I may have to check that connection again. Speedo...
These posts make me feel a bit better about it. I wish there was a way to figure out the mileage on it but that's just not possible. She runs strong though, I'd like to add a turbo eventually.
