Does anyone have a recommendation? NOT at all enjoying talking to the big diesel shops and would like to find a GOOD mechanic for my 1990 F250 7.3 IDI for winterization.

Hi truck nerds :)!
Been driving this beloved old Ford now for about 6 months. I have done some minor defferred maintenance and have a list of to-do item that I need to prioritze. Most immediate is the power steering recently acting up. I was told that there is a minor leak (can't remember...
I found another set of matching Dean Wintercats Lt load range E 265 75 16's with 80% left for $260 mounted and balanced. Again, if I could afford new, I would buy new. I actually don't like the way truck drives with these wide 285s that much even if it looks cooler :) Reviews seems good and...
Good Morning all :)
Question here...need to put some tires on my new-to-me truck. Just switched out the old 16.5 rims to some cool 16" inchers but the Mickey Thompson's MTZs on them are balder then Dr. Evil. I am learning about tire sizing...I have a opportunity to pick up some 265 75 16s...
But then I am chick stuck with truck and no "reliable mechanic" within reasonable distance at all. Not too many choices here. Lesson learned though, won't let it happen with this shop again. This was a referral from a commercial drive line mechanic from Church. Can't win for losin'!
Sigh, nope not towing, have roadside asst. with USAA, so that was free. $85hr to diagnose, $85hr to replace, $47 for part. Shite part is on Friday afternoon he said it was lift pump, would be $225. He called me Monday am to get it, when I arrived the bill was $380 for a few things I didn't ask...
Wow, THANK YOU all for the incredibly detailed and time consuming responses. Sincerely! I got it back yesterday and replacing the lift pump did fix the issue of it not running. I can't tell yet if there is another leak though. Too much pooled fuel still around to obscure the smell so can't tell...
Hi there,
thanks...it's not running , at least not for reliably or consistently. Acts like it ran out of fuel and dies. Was lucky it got me and the dogs home the other day. Tried to warm it up next morning and it died after about 3 mins running so I had it towed to the shop. I really...
Yes, that is exactly where it is pooling. One ex-military 12v mechanic thought it was a leaking injector. The mechanic that did my buyers inspection said it was the return kit. Now this guy says there is air in the lines and the lift pump and a fuel line are bad.
Thanks for the replies sans the smart assey "we aren't here to help with life events" condescending crap. Mechanic has had the rig for a week and starting to cross my fingers he isn't messing about. Was a referral from a solid source and it wasn't running so I had to have it towed within...
Seems i got kicked out of the ol' boys club here just for making a comment about getting my tools taken by an ex-dude. Real is real guys, doesn't mean I should be excommunicated. My new truck's fuel system went cattywompous but since no one on here replied to my previous thread...didn't seem to...
Hello all,
I just purchase this truck a few weeks ago. I am wondering what the general consensus on adding an after market turbo kit. 1. does it add additional strain to the tranny? 2. Is it worth it? 3. Does/can it reduce the overall life of the engine pushing it harder with a turbo?
Hello!
Yeah, I would like to start doing some of this myself if possible. Need to amass some tools again, alas the last dude I let in my life took 'em :(... My rim size is currently the outdated and PIA 16.5 x 12.5 x 235s. I'm looking at a set of 16" Ultra Ltd. Edition rims from same year...
Thanks! Good idea. I bought some stuff like that several months ago for a 75 F100 4x4 that I needed to have the manifold replaced on. I got it at O'Rielleys, used if for about 5 days, and voila...off they came. The other side I had done before that and the effing mechanics gauged the crap out of...
When making the purchase decision, I found a mechanic is Olympia that went out of his way to help me and get me information...His name is Derek with Northwest Motor Specialites...any feedback from anyone? He called the shop that does his IP rebuilds and between the rebuild fee and his labor...
Hello All!
I took a train last night to pick my truck up! Very cool, love it :) I am trying to prioritize the issues that need addressed based on importance v. $$$ (of course). The truck has a small fuel leak and needs a return kit. It also rides kinda womp womp womp because of the tires...
They are aftermarket 16.5 x 12.5 x 33s with aggressive tread and are weather worn a bit on the sides. Wouldn't trust them with a load or long distance...I am happy downgrading to a 16" good hauling tire. Better fuel economy anyway.
