    CL Rodney Red for bricknose

I bought that radiator for my IDI right after icanfixall helped me do a water pump changeout (Still grateful, sir!). Turned out in the end the engine needed a head gasket and maybe more - she ran OK but overheated under towing loads in hot weather, and my buddy up in Oregon swapped me another...

    Aluminum Radiators

The Rodney Red page also claims that aluminum radiators which are welded up with aluminum rod have an added real-world advantage since the soldered construction of copper/brass rads results in areas with much poorer heat transfer due to the "lead" solder. No idea how big the effect is...

    Replacing Glow Plugs?

What made it work for me on those two was a little swivel-head ratcheting box wrench after breaking them loose with a socket - couldn't finish removal with the socket lengths I had due to interference with the manifold. Position the wrench, rotate a couple of clicks, hold top connector on GP...

    Site problems???

I was on and posted twice but they have disappeared now, though the rest of the thread is still there - thought maybe I'd been edited, but there was nothing editable unless somebody found gauge pods offensive... Assume now it was random weirdness as a result of the hacking.

    Glow Plugs stuck - ideas?

I've had good luck with Kano Labs Aerokroil penetrating lubricant for seized components. Like Agnem says, a little high temp anti-seize on the new Beru's threads ought to avoid this hassle next time around...

    Need rad...Powerstroke work?

RLDSL, I'll be waiting to hear how the Rodney Red rad works for you. If an attempt to time her doesn't reveal that I'm running way retarded (insert smart comments here, I know that is way too easy of a straight line!) and possibly contributing to my cooling woes, I might be right behind you! Jim

    New Head Valve Recession

Unbelievable, icanfixall. All I can say is stick to your guns - as you say, YOU have done nothing wrong here! Seeing somebody like you - a reasonable, smart customer, a guy nice enough to show up at your house and help another IDI guy work on his truck, mired in this sort of mess makes my...

    Is 250 too hot?

My thought also! Possibly a.) The gauge is reading high (hope so!), or, b.) the overtemp switch or light is dead. Guess knowing how accurate the gauge is would be nice for your peace of mind. I'v struggled with cooling issues as well - in sort of a stand down now, but exploring...

    Brakes

So, does anyone make DOT-legal stainless braid flex lines for our trucks? Travis brings up a good point and I'm going to R&R mine. Teflon/stainless would be nice if I can get them... Jim

Better, but she still runs hot towing!

Hi buddy! I've run Stanadyne Performance every tank since getting the truck two years ago, but truthfully, I don't drive her enough to have much of a mileage record. Getting about 10 towing, but I am always going over grades to get to those high, dark places I love! My Dad swore by...

Better, but she still runs hot towing!

Thanks, Travis! Will look - couldn't remember that fan clutch maker name... Any recollection on how much you had to lay out for the big radiator? Jim

Better, but she still runs hot towing!

Fan clutch Well, I replaced the fan clutch at the same time I went through the rest of the system as the old one was definitely NOT engaging - there is very little doubt when it engages, that fan roar is pretty obvious, and there is a slight dropoff in power. I suppose it could be slipping...

Better, but she still runs hot towing!

Sorry, guys, should've included the new factory t-stat in the sig. It controls to a hair over 200 degrees per the Isspro under no towing load and passed a hot water test, opening at a shade under 198, wide open by 210 - I installed it at the same time icanfixall helped me with everything else...

Better, but she still runs hot towing!

OK, took the IDI to Grand Canyon last month towing my 5700 lb travel trailer, whole rig weighed maybe 14,000. Still cannot pull even a moderate desert grade without coolant temps creeping up past 230, fan roaring away, and if i don't watch coolant temp on the Isspro like a hawk, an eventual...

Correct power steering fluid for 1988?

Thank you, sir! Dex III/Mercon should be OK, then, I guess. Jim

Correct power steering fluid for 1988?

OK, I don't have an owner's manual or a complete service manual - can somebody tell me what the correct P.S. fluid is for my 88? Ford spec number? Thanks! Jim

What kind of boost/EGT's do YOU see?

Boy, hearing the EGTs you guys with ICs are seeing, I REALLY want one... Wastegated ATS, stock pump (turned up per ATS specs) and injectors with 109k miles, pulling a 6500 lb TT, I could easily see 900 on a post-turbo Isspro pyro install on most of the grades on I-5 northbound in CA and OR...

First-time fuel filter replacement - tips?

OK, I had a bad fuel leak from the fuel heater assy O-ring (seals against the fuel filter header assembly just below the boss for the heater power). Got the new heater assembly in, but I never did the filter. I want to fill the new one with fuel before spinning it on to the header - right...

    Motor Burn Down Update

My friend, if you need a low-skill but willing assistant for any of the work, give me a holler and if I'm in town I'll come over - I definitely owe you! Jim

    eliminating steering wander

Probably because most of the time the big slop is coming from things like rod ends and ball joints. Maybe it was to caution against OVER tightening the sector mesh adjustment. It's pretty common for guys to do so because it's quick and dirty. You do NOT want to do that - overtightening it can...

    WP replacement needed

Long as you're in there... Wouldn't hurt to have a look at the thermostat and housing. My housing's little air purge check ball was missing when I did. Replaced the whole shebang since I really didn't want to do that teardown again. If you do the t/stat, use the Motorcraft or IH piece - a...

    Oil Pressure Fix

Shoot, if there's any possibility of drainback when you shut down, that makes all kinds of sense, icanfixall! Glad you isolated that gremlin, buddy - I'll bet I wasn't the only one feeling a little nervous about not having a real gauge and wondering if my pressure might be way down... still...

    Coolant flush.

Are the plugs rusted in? If so, try some Aerokroil. Fairly amazing stuff for freeing up frozen fasteners...mine came right out after a spritz and overnight soak. Guess you can flush on a best-effort basis if it's absolutely impossible to get those plugs out, but they allow the water jackets...

First tow, and she ran hot - who has improved cooling system?

You can get the Isspro in either pre or post turbo versions - green runs to 1050 or 1100 IIRC in the pre-turbo. If I still like the truck after I finish a bunch of other mods (the other gauges, a trans filter, maybe a coolant filter and a bigger trans cooler, have it timed...) I might go back...
