    F350 steering box upgrade

so the OBS boxes are pretty generic, going from rangers to the f350, 2wd and 4x4. The difference is the pitman arm. a d50 and d60 pitman arms are different, the d60 arm is long. with that said, the +05 box and arm is an EASY swap, and i gained SO much more angle than the old leaf sprung d60. I...

Cetane Booster beneficial in a 7.3 idi?

Propel HPR works great in my 6.9, just add a little optilube XL and go about your day! Cetane is the "ignitability" of the fuel. Higher the cetane, the more volatile/ignitabile it is. It really depends on where the diesel is operating! If you are loadlfing around at 1700-2000 Rpm, a low...

    Power steering noise?

Might be time for a fluid change! I drained my fluid and swapped in ATF. Nice n quiet. Usually the whining comes with pump wear, or cavitation. There is a small screen on the pump inlet in the reservoir, though.

    Shocks?

Rear spring hangers? Like front springs? If it's a shackle reversal on an f350 4wd it will be worth it. F250 it will ride worse

    Shocks?

Imo, shocks are just as important as the spring design. The Bilstein shocks are great value for the life and ride quality. The front shackle is to blame on these trucks if it's an f350. F250 the shackle placement makes sense, just a HUGE spring rate. I went Kings. Came with the kit :)

    Front brake rotors

Koyo bearings are just as good as Timkens, if you're looking for bearings. Submarines use them, so I'm sure the Japanese have a lock on cone bearings. Stoptech are made in the USA and I like them on my swapped axles. Be sure to get the heaviest rotors and uprated pads, should be good.

Any ideas how to get more air???

Look at that hypermax cowl intake. A guy down here did one on a 24 valve Cummins and it actually does work. Kind of impressed.

    N/V/H Poly vs Rubber bushings

Poly bushings for the win. On these trucks it takes a LOT to improve ride. I had to do the 05+ swap with Carli(read: VERY high quality) springs all around, and it still rides a lil rough. Poly bushings will not deform or fall apart, unless you use the wrong type of grease on the inside. Oil...

    Restore. Good? Bad? Ugly?

Check out Project Farm on YouTube, he has 2 episodes of using it on an old farm tractor. I dunno if the long game works, but 100+ hours it did pretty ok. Dunno if it hurts bearings or anything though.

    Too loud?

The oil pan is the only thing separating the crank case from outside, and straight under that is open air. For example, a small square of that peel n seal or whatever it is, applied to the pan absorbs a lot of that rattle and chatter from the diesel. Some guy on a Cummins forum makes a lot for...

    Too loud?

Check out the MBRP quiet tone mufflers. I put one on my IDI and jeez, it actually made a difference! I live on top of a hill and this thing is LOUD coming home. Just gotta get to insulating the oil pan now...

The harmonic anvil? Boat anchor? Keel? What is this?

It's a Harmonic dampener. With your truck running down the freeway at speed, with all the little vibrations of the road, driveshaft, 8 cylinders firing and doing the diesel thing and super heavy duty springs, not much can flex or absorb vibrations. Sky scrapers use it to protect against...

    PSD vs IDI fuel economy

You need to also look at compression ratio under naturally aspirated conditions. Our engines have a super high 22.5:1 and came n/a for most of it's career. Off the turbo, these engines are designed to turn peak torque at 1400 rpm, 200 rpm lower than the 5.9 Cummins. Higher static compression can...

    Variable Vein

Keeps the turbo spooled and in the sweet spot longer than a fixed vane. You can attain boost earlier on the low end, and prevent overspending on the top end, without super heating the air. Pretty neat! Check out the Turbonator by DPS. First true aftermarket VGT turbski

    Best aftermarket differential covers?

ARB diff cover in the front and the stock Ford finned cover in the rear. ARB cover because it's a wonderfully machined piece of gear, cast iron just like the pumpkin, and adds some substantial rigidity to the front diff. If you have a d60. D50 I wouldn't worry about it, if it has a diff cover...

School me on Limited Slip Differentials

The Ford factory limited slip really leaves something to be desired. My dad has one in his excursion and ever since new, it seemed like an open diff. I have ridden in a truck with a true Trac, and my Kia Stinger has a Torsen diff. Great units up to around a 35" tire. Very secure feeling...

    1990 zf s542 to 1996 zf s547

Sure would! If anything slap on your tcase and use the same driveshaft. Dimensions are the same for the zf5's

    Gutting CDR valve?

The CDR is a failsafe that shuts crank case vapors from the intake when it runs away, so to me it's pretty important to keep. Road draft tube would work, but I would recommend a catch can instead! The blowby smell gets annoying after a while in traffic. Besides, a little more top end cylinder...

    Cummins swap

The only thing the nv4500 will do is save you money on trans adapters. The tcase needs to be sourced from a Dodge, along with all your linkages to get it to work. Unfortunately the Ford tcases won't fit :( unless you source what, an nv271? From a Dodge application. They are basically the same...

Looks way better than mine... Slam an 05+ Dana 60 in it and rock it!

    Rear Axle Question

Any Sterling, from 1988 up will bolt in. Grab one that has your ratio (preferrably out of a 92-97, has less issues) and slap it in

e4od and how much to toughen it up?

When I rebuilt mine, I threw the whole trans away(PO put 4r100 parts in there... Wtf) Started with a 95 case(updated put.p, and updated everything. 6 pinion planetaries, rollerized the center support, all the goodies. With a transgo tugger kit! Shifts firm (pretty hard cold, but nice when warm)...

Bronco front coil spring swap? feasible?

Didn't a certain someone that owns a certain IDI shop swap a 7.3 into a bronco? Iirc, the suspension is stock and took it just fine. Just gonna be a little soft for doing anything truck related.

Coil over springs on a obs idi ?

Easiest way to do this would be an 05+ d60 swap. YES, the bolt pattern is different and they are unit bearings, BUT HAVE YOU SEEN THE BRAKES?! Holy God. After the swap of stock parts, there are brackets made for a true 4-link and coilovers if ya want Bronco air? Has a d60 kit that attached the...
