Any tips for winterizing my 6.9 NA Diesel?

Well it seems not too many people have an opinion on this. Maybe driving the van this winter on snowy :dunnomountain roads is just not a good idea? Any thoughts?

Any tips for winterizing my 6.9 NA Diesel?

It's been a while since I 've posted here. This forum is the best! I've got an 86 E350 extended clubwagon van that I'm planning on using this winter to shuttle up to Mt Hood this winter. I'm a snowboarder and this year I'm purchasing a season pass, and I will offer a nice comfy ride to people...

STP oil filter not going on too good?

Yeah I'm starting to think that's what I did. I hate to admit it, but I wrenched it on there and it seems to be holding. Since I'm fairly new to owning this van, I decided that maybe that's how they go on. cookoo I noticed a slight drop of oil after test driving her down the highway, but I...

STP oil filter not going on too good?

I ended up using the orings off of the one injector I replaced due to to my stripping it when I was putting it back together, and it worked. What a rookie mistake. I'm in a time crunch and I'm probably moving faster than I should. I'm assuming that I will need new o-rings for all the injectors...

STP oil filter not going on too good?

Well after checking and double checking, the threads on the male part seemed fine, and I think is a harder metal. I got it on there. Now I'm trying to figure out what the heck is causing a fule injector laek. There's only one leak, and I checked the o-rings and they seem fine. Any thoughts?

STP oil filter not going on too good?

I bought a STP oil filter from auto zone and it's not threading on too good. The part number is right, and it has the same thread size as the Napa filter I took off, but the thread is longer and it's getting tight halfway through installing it.-cuss I wanted to get this done tonight because I'm...

    Manual Proportioning valve install

UPDATE!! I found this article, and I'm convinced that I should use the stock proportioning valve. http://www.stoptech.com/tech_info/wp_proportioning_valves.shtml I would rather not install the manual valve if I can help it. The only problem is that when I unplugged the valve (opened it up)...

    Burning oil on the road

I posted a thread about my trip to Seattle and the Northern Cascade Mountains a couple of weeks ago. Well everything went great, I had 8 passengers on the way to Seattle, and 5 on the way back to Portland at 10 bucks a head. Everyone loved the van and it was a great time. I also took the van up...

First long distance trip with my Van this weekend

I'm confident it would start if I tried! I need to pick up a new fuel filter and housing, because it was previously stripped off. If I can find a set up up in Seattle, I'll try to charge the batteries up. I'm bringing tools, so we'll see.

First long distance trip with my Van this weekend

Vacuum booster is working great, master cylinder has as much fluid as the day I closed it, and I've put on a couple hundred miles since then. As far as the bus goes, it ended up there because I had nowhere to go when I was living out of it, and the price was right for rent, ten bucks a month...

First long distance trip with my Van this weekend

Hey all, I'm pretty excited to head North this weekend up to Seattle and beyond into the Cascades (from Portland OR). I have an old 76 40 footer transit bus sitting in a field up in Darrington Wa, and I'm off to shoot some photos and figure out what the heck I'm going to do with the thing...

Van engineers must die part 2

Your post makes me shiver a bit. Well I'm new to IDI Van ownership, and so far I've replaced the vacuum pump, and brake master cylinder. I'll make sure to set aside some time when I get deeper in and replace injectors and whatnot. I'll be taking the old van on a tour this summer starting in...

    Manual Proportioning valve install

The pump is installed and pulling over 25"Hg. Brakes are working great. I ended up buying a pulley puller because the one I ordered for rent at Auto Zone never showed up, and it's always good to have another tool. Unfortunately the puller collar was not fitting under the puller part because the...

    Manual Proportioning valve install

So I picked up the part and removed the old one. Now I'm trying to figure out how to remove the pulley. Any ideas?

    Manual Proportioning valve install

Auto zone has a re manufactured pump for 110 bucks. Perhaps time saving and 1 year warranty is worth buying it. I'm going to call around and see if any u-pull its have any of these diesels sitting around, because it would be good to start collecting some extra parts.

    Manual Proportioning valve install

Well I just tested the vacuum coming off the pump at idle, and it's well below 20 It was actually just below 15"hg when I first started the motor, but then dropped down to around 12"hg. Looks like a new vacuum pump is on my list. I guess I'll be spending some money on a new one since it seems...

    will B5 biofuel affect timing?

You'll theoretically have less unburned hydrocarbons in your exhaust, so less black carbon color, but still a generous amounts of NOx and particulates that will produce a lighter colored smoke.

None of these symptoms have been experienced. Good to know.

    Manual Proportioning valve install

That makes sense. I expect that getting fresh proper hose to barb fittings will be a preventative measure that will rule out small leaks in the vac circuit.

    Manual Proportioning valve install

I bought a vacuum tester today, and I'm looking forward to getting to the bottom of this hard braking issue. I did take some vacuum tubes off of the vacuum manifold (multiple hose connector?) when I put in the new Master cylinder, and now I'm kind of suspicious of the seals on those hoses now...
