    Electrical gremlins, no crank

Dual batt. setup, starter battery is only a couple weeks old, will be load-testing them tomorrow to be sure. Replaced the belts and re-tightened them all, so a loose alternator belt isn't to blame. I don't think its the alternator itself, as the past couple days its started out cranking real...

    Overflowing at the pump

So how does it know when to slow down and let the fuel just trickle in?

    Overflowing at the pump

Hmm. So it has nothing to do with pressure in the tank or anything? I don't like that pump anyway, it takes a good 10-15 min to fill up one tank (its real close though. I'll try a different station next time I need to fill up and I'll let ya know what happens.

    Overflowing at the pump

When I go to fill up the truck, I gotta stand right next to the filler so I can manually shut it off (we've got 2 feet of snow in less than 2 days and it ain't lettin up... I'd rather sit in the cab and wait). If I don't shut it off, it just keeps going and going and going and it overflows and...

Why does the government restrict dyed fuel to off road use?

Hm, interesting. Ignoring the Cummins-specific info, according to that article off-road diesel does have a slightly different formula than on-road diesel.

Solved the rear tire traction issue in snow that all trucks have...

Hell yeah, I keep tryin to tell my girlfriend that the truck likes mud baths too :D Is that a CB antenna on your front bumper? That's interesting, I've never seen one mounted there. Who makes it?

Why does the government restrict dyed fuel to off road use?

If there isn't an industry standard on this and different stations do do it differently... your info says ya live in Cali, green central. Your laws on that could be much stricter than those of us in other regions. It is, I'd certainly like to find out more about this. I'm new to the diesel...

Why does the government restrict dyed fuel to off road use?

I'm seein a lot of back an forth, "yes it does" "no it doesn't" here, but no actual facts. Not callin anybody a liar or anything, I'm just sayin that facts and evidence would benefit everybody here. I'm not gonna pretend to know anything about this topic, I'm here to learn and I don't see...

Solved the rear tire traction issue in snow that all trucks have...

Lol I gave up on dents in the truck bed the first day I had the thing. I use the truck to haul around parts for my crawler, and the axles, steel, and other parts have done their damage.

    6.9 block heater

Will do. I think I remember reading something about 6.9s having a problem with cracked blocks from being plugged in too long... is that right or am I making crap up?

    6.9 block heater

Well, the GP system doesn't work, so it needs a quick shot of ether and a bit of cranking before it fires up anyway. I've been alternating the tanks, but now that winters coming I've been thinking about running off the front tank and keeping the rear full so I have some weight over the rear...

    6.9 block heater

At what temp should I plug it in? It's startin to get real cold at night. And on the same note, when should I be adding anti-gelling additives?

    Cranks, won't fire

Yup, sounds like that was probably the one... don't remember any green in the thing but then its mostly black from oil so it could have the stripe. Either way, it runs ;Sweet Oh and the black in the fuel... the PO had the thing running on used motor oil out of a huge tank takin up half the bed...

    Cranks, won't fire

Uh... the red one that lit up my test light when the key was on :dunno I'm pretty sure its the injector pump power or something along those lines. I pretty much looked at the engine, found a part with wires coming out of it that weren't hooked up to anything, then I looked around for a hot wire...

    Cranks, won't fire

Well, fixed it. After having the fawker towed home and spending a good 6 hours running through things and working on it... a wire was loose. One single wire. ;Pissed :drunk: Ah well, now I get to go mount my new wheels/tires.

    Cranks, won't fire

Hmm... interesting theory. I had no idea that diesel could grow algae. Yes, electric pump wired up to a toggle in the cab. What I ended up doing was removing the filter and putting a funnel in its place with a line running down to the bottom of the truck into a bucket. I switched the fuel pump...

    Cranks, won't fire

Fuel filter was full when I took it off, didn't check the oil for diesel but I checked the diesel for oil. Sorta. I called up my bud who used to be a diesel tech and he came over and checked it out. He checked through the fuel system and it was black, seems to be coming from the rear tank cause...

    Cranks, won't fire

I think it was a little over 3/4. Got the new fuel filter on, filled it with some Diesel Klean, put the new air filter on, charged the batteries. No progress. With the new stuff, it'd fire once or twice and that'd be it. I tried it with the air box completely open, and with some ether too...

    Cranks, won't fire

Lol yeah that was my first thought, I tried both tanks (one was 100% full, the other should have been around 80%) and there was no effect. Just got home from the parts store with some diesel clean, and new air and fuel filters. One of my buds at the parts store used to be a diesel tech, he...

    Cranks, won't fire

Alright, just woke up, gonna head to the parts store in a few. The list is: air filter fuel filter(s) diesel klean Engine has I think 80k on the rebuild, driveline and frame probably have around 200k but look to have been restored, and I don't know about the body. I'm pretty sure my fuel pump is...

    Cranks, won't fire

Longish story, bear with me. On the way to the bar tonight she was stallin out every so often, losing power for a second or two and then coming back. Died completely at a stoplight but fired right back up. Then as we were turning into the parking lot, it died and wouldn't fire up again, so we...
