The search continues. Looking now at a ‘96 F350 4x4 PSD. Only has ~140k miles on it. Everything looks real clean...no rust. Two questions:

1. Owner put 3:55 differential in the rear so he could do 75+ on highway. Has 4:10 differential up front. So 4x4 not working. The original 4:10 rear diff. Comes with it. How hard to swap it back so I can get 4x4 operative?

2. Tranny was rebuilt about ~30k miles ago. Think the PO wanted to beef it up and put a billet shift kit in it??? Says it shifts hard, but is really only annoying. Not sure if this is normal? Good? Bad? Thoughts?

Price is right for the condition and mileage, just not sure of the two questions. It’s about a 7 hr drive to look, so i’m a little weary about if the trip is worth it.

Any input is greatly appreciated

Did he swap a different 10.25 in or just the ring and pinion?

How much is he asking?

Not sure. Just said he swapped to 3:55 differential. Asking $10k but seems flexible

Really? With only 140k miles. I haven’t found anything close to that. People are asking $10k plus for 250k mike trucks. Anything under is completely rusted out. That’s why I’m looking 7hrs out. I think it’s high as well, but have been looking for months and haven’t seen nothing close. Really like these older diesels, just seems they are selling very high. Oh well...no hurry. Can always keep looking

For the price difference, take a train to CA and buy one of the now cheap F450s and drive it home.
