Finally getting around to the 3g upgrade but have an issue or potential issue with swapping the pulley over. I have a new Bosch AL 7508N alternator which was the only non-chinese new alternator I could find that was listed as fitting a 90-94 Taurus/Lincoln/Mercury. I do need to buy a or dig up a proper shim so the dual belt pulley can clear the alt case but what I'm unsure about is it looks like the alternator shaft is too short to allow the shim, pulley, lock washer, and nut to all fit. Is this normal? Safe to leave out the lock washer and use some Loc-Tite?

Pulley part # is

Well that's exactly what mine looks like after assembly. I guess it's Loc-Tite to make it all-right. Or find another pulley. I've noticed the chinese 3g alternators for the E-Series 7.3 IDI come with a different dual belt pulley than the F-Series--diameter is smaller and perhaps there is more room for the nut and washer but I can't seem to locate just the pulley.

Is it a "skinny nut" as pictured above? If not, go to the hardware store and find a different nut to secure your alternator pulley. x2 on using Loctite. I don't recall if I used the lock washer on mine.

Loctite, along, will do the job of securing the nut. This is what Locktite is for. They make two kinds; perminate and removable.

If you're using locktite you should be fine,
IF you're really worried get a small set screw ( allen head) and tap the interphase of the threads and locktite it in there, it's a forever fix you can pull apart.
My stash of various grades.
But don't go insane, get blue and purple ( removable) and red ( needs a torch to break free) and clean and dry surfaces, go along with a happy feeling of "that ain't going anywhere "!

I used the orange Loc-Tite since I've never had it fail on me but it's still way easier to remove than the red stuff. It would've been nice to be ab;e to use the lock washer but I guess this is one of those "Better Living Through Chemicals" moments.
