Howdy, I'm new to the whole idi thing. But long story short I'm putting a 7.3 idi in a s10 with 4 inch pipe and glass pack style mufflers. But I am wondering how loud it is db wise or in comparison to something.
It will have the zf5, 4.10 gears, and 35'-38' tires
Thanks in advance❤

At highway speeds? (65-70mph) My guess, which is SWAG, low-mid 70’s dB with engine/tires.

My dads 2006 Marquee measured out around 64 dB, and my stock E-350 measured in the mid 70’s near the doghouse and low 80’s near the doors due to wind @65-68 mph. (E4OD/30” tires/4.10’s) at 55-60mph (1800-ish rpms) it’s much much quieter.

Probably more like 85 unless I'm towing then 75. And is that practically straight piped?

I'll second what hacked 89 said earlier. Yes. These are loud when N/A with no muffler. WAAAY louder than a 2006 Mercury Marquis. That's even at idle. Having done this myself, the best advice I can give you if you want to go the N/A, no muffler route is to have the exhaust exit as far away from you as possible. It sounds dumb, but it does help. Another thing is to keep the passenger's side window rolled up. It helps block a little of the noise too.

I always love it when it's warm enough I can drive with the windows down just so I can listen to the straight pipe sing.

When I was driving like that, I didn't mind it until I went across a bridge or through a tunnel. Then it was too loud for me. Now, I don't want too listen to it at all. It sucks to get old, but they say that it beats the alternative.

What axles in the s10? It’s as loud as a gasser v8 when NA
It's gonna have a Chevy 14 bolt

I'll probably just find high flowing short mufflers that do a bit more silence sense I want it to come out the fenders

Here in AZ it's always warm enough. It sucks.

I have thought about moving that direction just for that reason. I hate the cold. Everyone tells me I'm crazy but I prefer it to be 100+ degrees to 60.

I tell you what I think about a NA straight pipe........... miserable! I thought I was going to go deaf, but the stacks on the tow truck are like RIGHT THERE! I made my own glass packs to put in my stacks and that was/is much better. I do plan on putting a 12" or 18" glass pack right behind the engine to shut it up some more, but the 36" glass packs in my stacks make it like an old rumbly big block. Here's some pictures, but if you go to my "Jesus Freaks WMO tow truck" thread there's a discription.

I will completely agree that I don't think I could deal with them that close to the cab. That and true duals make it much louder. Mine is a single 3" stock exit so it isn't all that loud in the cab. Don't thing I would want to be in a small car getting passed by it on the highway though.
