Welcome to the Forum by the way. We will need someone to chime in that has some insight in this. I had not heard that before, I would be surprised as it is just measuring a level like ph, electrolysis or any other similar test. But I was wrong once before...or twice.- wildman7798

Rear diff gurus, what is this?
That is a differential that has had water in it. My used unit was a little like that only the water and oil were not mixed as it had sat for years and just filled up as the truck had no box on it and the cover had a bad silicon seal at the top edge. I personally would get a test strip from your auto parts store and test what you have. It may be fine. The test strip will show the SCA level as well as the protection level of the coolant/anti freeze.- wildman7798

New transmission time
Haven't heard a word about the pilot bearing, I would assume this was new with the clutch change and then inspected on the new tranny install. Not likely even if it was missing would you have that kind of noise on or off clutch but figured I would throw it out there- wildman7798

Another option might be a tractor/implement shop if there are any in the area. I used to help out a friend with a tractor shop and we made all the cables in any size wire needed with any length and lugs.- wildman7798

Embarrassing jumpstart mistake...need help
Well said by Franklin - always always stand back as far as you can reach and look away. Was on scene for a battery blow up years ago - blew parts of the case, lugs and caps 30 yards away. Crank how long before batteries die
Most parts stores with a decent load testing system will be able to narrow it down to batteries or starter. When lead acid batteries reach 32 deg. F they lose half of their power. Sounds like a bad booster. When my vacuum pump wasn't keeping up do to a broken bracket and loose belt I had a similar hard pedal. It was erratic between hard and mushy but mostly a hard pedal. I got the bracket replaced, had full vacuum then had a functional but mushy pedal. Replaced M/C...- wildman7798

That's all good info. I would invest in the starter first for obvious reasons. I guess it's possible the nose depth or spline cut or diameter could be just enough to provide better engagement. A chance I will be willing to take.- wildman7798

So after 5 months of running my truck I got the dreaded starter grind, twice in about 6 starts today. I can't remember the last time it was ever the starter drive that was wore down so I'll figure ring gear as the most likely culprit.
