    Steer Me Right

So my 4wd driver side hub was slipping with ratcheting noise, leaving me 2wd, and was full of greasy grit and metal shavings when opened (which was another struggle, t25 to the rescue). Metal is from the gear inside that quickly pops out with the biggest spring under it, held (in this case) by a...

    Over heating?

Check your boots if you're getting smoke in the cab. Bleed speed up hills to not work it so hard. Radiator plugged? Are you empty (what weight?)? I got that hot pulling a heavy trailer up a mountain once, but the shifter was only warm, check transmission and fluids?

    4-5 mpg on 7.3 w/banks turbo

My worst mileage ever was 4.5mpg on a half tank of firewood-getting in low four (zf5). Plenty of power, much torque being used as I hooked up to larger and larger chunks of trees. You're running a turbo (on the road?) and getting that mileage with no power, which means the fuel is going...

Convert 8 lug down to 5 lug

My '90 f250 RC LB 4x4 was recently on a scale at ~6200# with my everyday ballast included. You might make 7700#, depending on options. How many pounds saved on 5 lug? I think you'd be better served by losing weight elsewhere. Sound insulation, extra fuel tank, different bed.. How many times do...

    1986 hp vs 1987?

I'd like to add, although it's a month and a half late, that I've had zf-5 and e4od in otherwise reasonably similar '90s. Zf-5 takes a minute to get started, unless I skip gears (empty), it's not fast even then but at least I might not hold up traffic. Automatic just push the go pedal as far as...

    project: watch out Kentuckians

I'd measure underhood temp, put any slow-reacting thermometer under and drive it around. Won't give a comparison unless you have an unmolested hood to swap in or old data.

    Breaks and exhaust question

I recommend checking vacuum pump, brakes get hard to operate without one, so knowing it's good is important. If it's not building vac quickly enough your brakes would act like that. Exhaust in cab, check your shifter boots. Mine were not attached at the floor when I got my truck, and the...

    Absolutely hate starters

He's talking 'piggyback' starter like Nippondenso rather than inline Mitsubishi, both of which are, however, gear reduction. I had hard starts for a while and killed a Mitsubishi, but they work.

    Usable tire size

(I think) Kubota's on coils in the OBS pictured above. My '90 f250 is on leaf springs, and that's where 35s rubbed if I turned too tight.. Looked fine, had much traction without digging ruts, worked great unless I forgot.

    Slave cylinder travel.

I think it's 7/16" minimum, but that's rememory from a few months back.

    Steer Me Right

It's all out of the truck now, and it looks like the bottom seal is pooched out and blocking the snap ring. Trying to figure out whether to chisel it open or farm it out/get another box.

    Steer Me Right

I hoped to do this in the truck; seemed easiest. Pitman arm off with no problem. Snap ring won't budge. Tried cleaning it and using snap ring pliers, which couldn't get it to compress. Stuck an awl into one end and tapped with a hammer to try to budge/break free, no luck. I'm running out of...

    Cab light mounting

Gotcha. Makes sense, sorry I didn't know. Drill new holes 3/4" away from a bend in some flashing or scrap steel (with self-tappers?)? Might be worth the time making them (right) if you save it back from searching.

Quick and Easy Tutorial on how to post pictures uploaded to the forum.

I don't know from Tapatalk, but Safari can do. Is file uploading/image insertion easier? Does it make your telephone noiser or more likely to vibrate? Thanks, maybe I'll read some internest about it too. Edit:I'd rather not have to find and delete automatical signaturing, probably just leave...

    Cab light mounting

5/8" won't grab? A windshield replacer recently recommended clear bathroom caulk when he noticed the method used on my roof, said it'd hold and seal until I pulled it off. There might be self-tappers on mine, which is getting hard to blame on the PO now, four years later..
