I wanted to post an update to this thread and close it out. To recap, I had ordered a Tech Time diesel timing meter off of eBay and had a lot of trouble getting it to read my RPM correctly. I eventually requested a replacement from the seller and got the new unit to read correctly immediately...
So a little update on my timing problem. I requested a replacement from the seller and he sent it out no problem. I got to try it out today and the original RPM issue is gone. Definitely a defective transducer or meter. However, I actually got to start timing my truck and I have yet to get...
My glowplugs click sometimes after the light, sometimes they don’t. I guess it’s temperature related but it always starts so I haven’t really checked into it. I don’t know hold cold we are talking in Colorado but I can start my truck with one cycle of the plugs with temperatures down in the...
Sadly I moved the ground around more times than I can count. I think I’ll have to contact the seller and see about starting a return. I’m curious if the other fellow in this thread that had similar problems ever got his going.
So I have tried every comment in this thread. The line is as clean as I can get it and I have moved the clamp around countless time. I’ve tried it right next to the injector and back closer to the pump. I’m beginning to think I received a bad transducer or meter. I wish I could test it. I still...
I will play the position on the line some more and see. My main focus is the transducer because it is my understanding that that should be independent of the probe. This is a quick video of my setup.
Yes I’ve watched the video several times. I thought it was pretty helpful. However my problem is with the transducer not reading the RPMs properly. It’s cleaned to the steel, and the ground it’s hooked directly to my battery negative with a jumper. Anything above idle makes the meter go crazy...
I believe mine was NIB as well. Okay, I will try some WD-40 on the sanded area. The RPM readout should be completely independent of the probe or the harmonic balancer correct? Also did you have an opportunity to check the picture I posted a few posts back? Just want to make sure I have the...
Did you happen to get your meter off of eBay? And I did have the meter set to probe. I did change the dial to every position at one point or another just messing with it.
So I’m still struggling with this timing meter. I got the truck hooked up today and after doing a lot of reading I knew what things to look for. I had the #1 injector line very clean, and the ground clamp hooked directly to the negative battery terminal with a jumper. However, I still couldn’t...
Okay I will take a look at that. What’s your YouTube channel name? So without the spring were you at all concerned with the probe working its way down the tube while the truck was running? Hitting the balancer essentially
Did you drill it out still on the truck? If so what was your setup? My alternator bracket looks like it would make it impossible to get in there with even a right angle drill.
