While I am awaiting the delivery of my truck (UGH TAKING TO LONG) I have started ordering parts to fix what I know is bad. New door pins and switches lights and etc.
What i do not know is using rubber or cork better for IDI on valve covers? I also will assume its going to need injectors as well and as I've read up i need the updated ones ZF9? I think i saw was correct.
This truck has sat for last year as the transmission is out so there approx 1500 for E4OD on top of things.

Can anyone suggest other parts to go ahead and add to list for R&R as well so i can start adding to my list o parts to buy?

This is my first diesel to be gentle on me..

Welcome to the forum... Your suggestion that the engine needs a new set of ZD9 injectors was incorrect. ZD9 is the glow plugs and if you need those please use ONLY Motorcraft Beru ZD9 glow plugs. Nothin else works and will cause issues.. Also this forum recommends purchasing injectors from only 3 sellers that have been proven over years of great products and service. If you buy cheap you will end up buying what this forum already knows it true.

Can you list the sellers for injectors?

I took mine out this weekend and (3) of them are pitted, and they were full of crap.

You might want to just order a new MOTORCRAFT thermostat. Only use Motorcraft thermostat. Make sure your coolant has the proper SCA content, or just drain/flush system and use Fleetcharge(this will help prevent cavitation).

Recently replaced valve cover gaskets with rubber and no leaks, but I know some people prefer the cork gaskets--they just said it was getting harder to find them.

If this is your first diesel i would suggest reading as much as you can on the forums. I learned a ton just from reading old posts.

I've used cork and rubber VC gaskets. Both seem to perform ok for me. If I had to make a preference, I'd say rubber.

Thanks Guys for input I meant ZD9 and ive been reading so much on the forums that i get crossed eyed haha I work in the oil field so I have the right fluids in stock for everything so that a savings yay me
I figured the best thing to do since not knowing history was to replace the injectors and valve cover gaskets so one thing would be down.

Another Texas idi I see! I’m north of San Antonio, let me know if you need any misc parts, I stockpile these trucks.

Something that hasn’t been mentioned is the headlights. The stock lights are pretty lame, and doing the headlight relay mod makes them perform the way the should and keeps your headlight switch from melting/burning up. Bronco graveyard sells a really nice kit that’s worth every penny.

Sweet as soon as she gets here I will be compiling list o parts for sure. I know there is a plethora of them i will need. Doors fenders etc..
I am hoping that the wiring for pw/pdl is in the kick panel so i can put those on and plug and play with set of doors.

About the Coolant/SCA... when I got my IDI van a couple years ago, I changed her coolant out to the red Chevron DELO ELC.... supposedly precharged with Nitrite additives for 750,000 miles... Apparently both the Rotella ELC and the Napa ELC appear to be of very similar formulation. I think they called it NOAT technology.

Just hope I am doing the right thing. To me, this is a precious beast, and I would really like to have her the rest of my life.
