Engine cleaning tips??

My engine is beyond dirty, past oil leaks, fuel leaks road grime etc. what's the best safest way to clean it and easy to find products to do so? 7.3 idi turbo. Besides not getting air filter wet anything else I should avoid?

I go to the local car wash with engine cleaner on tap. Use engine cleaner stuff first, go over the truck from front to back. Then high pressure soap to wash it down and get rid of most of the grime, then rinse with clean water.

Some of the layered on deposits may take a few 'cycles' of this, and it'll work better if you let it dry between 'cycles'(so do it every day for a week, or every few days or something until it's clean).

Sounds good they do have that! I don't even think I have a oil leak anymore I'm just leaving drips now and I think it's all just left over oil from my massive leak that's hopefully fixed now lol

That's just the Ford-spec rust prevention system.

I like purple power, la totally awesome, almost any citrus cleaner is good, also simple green.

I was thinking something like that as a pre soak before using the pressure machine, I've used the foam on my bronco before with good results but after a second shot with it made things look dried out so I worry it's too much and possibly could dry seals out hurt rubber pieces

i use a steam cleaner. no detergent needed.

I use a product called Fast 505, it is strong, very strong, but it cuts the really old and dried out greasy grime. I tried Simple Green, it had no effect but the Fast 505 went right through it. The front of my undercarriage is coated with oil, diesel and held together with dirt, I bought a gallon of it and will use a pressure washer to help get it off.

When I did the engine, I used a regular garden hose with a pressure nozzle, the Fast 505 worked so well I did not need a pressure washer.
