cold high idle switch.

Just put a new pump in my truck took a couple crack to turn over but is running great, I let it warm up everything seams good. my high idle solenoid arm is extended and when warm is not retracting could this be due to my low batteries charging up or does the arm stay extend to idle. When I put it back on my pump I know it can be adjusted, do I have something not set right or does this seem normal.

pull the plug on the solenoid, if it drops back, and then engages when you reconnect it, its a switch issue.
the thermo switch tells it when to turn off.

if anyone can post the part number of a new switch, id greatly appreciate it

IIRC it's a 1/2 npt temp switch that opens at 125 F. If you can't find it from ford or international, I'm sure there is a universal replacement. It's basically 2 1/4" spade connectors sticking out the top of it. I did away with my factory engine harness so I had to replace it.

would it be bad to drive like this till I figure out the issue, need to haul wood in a bad way.

Not really.
It's not recommended to have the timing advance on all the time.
You could just unplug the temp switch.

you may want it in the colder climate
put it on a switch until you can replace it, or unplug it and let it warm up longer

where is the temp switch located I believe some where on the passenger side?.

It's hard to see. I have a v-belt truck, but on mine you have to look way down in behind the alternator. Just run without it. My truck does fine in cold weather without it. The original sensor is $50 and I do not want to spend the money for it. If someone found one cheaper I would probably fix it.

yes I believe I found it, wired in with my glow plug harness has a clip connector on top right next to some radiator tube. I will get a new one after I check it out tomorrow, replacing is just unscrewing and putting in a new one right? nothin special.

its a PITFA to get to with a v-belt system.
on my IH harness, the IP 12v+ is branched to the temp switch, that feeds the high idle and advance.
I just bought one, 56 bucks. not cheap.
but I want to leave that portion stock.
I may add a switch just for high idle.

I've been running without either since I got my truck running after the flood!
-30 and she still starts, of course, I have my GPs on a manual switch, and I have thought about putting the timing advance on a switch, but I haven't yet......

(I'll also mention that my wiring harness is hacked to all hell, to the point that my ignition switch connector has been re-pinned to a non-factory ordering)

You will lose some coolant, but yes. That's it.

my switch is bad I pulled the connection and it feel off before it was warm, just leaving it unplugged till I get a switch.
Found out how to get people to stop tailgating me I just fill my truck with precariously stacked and bouncing lumber hanging out the back 50mph on the main road, line of traffic behind me but no one felt like getting close haha.
