Hood water seal thing

So when changing my glow plugs I leaned my hand forward up against the brittle old rubber thing that seals between the hood and the engine right above the air cleaner. It then broke and bent in a way where water now gets all over the air bowl above the intake and everywhere.

What is this part called and can I even get a new one? Good way to fix it? My air cleaner at least has the rubber washer on it and it doesn't leak into the intake but still wanna fix it somehow asap.

I think it is 41-1514 at the top of the page #1. I know I bought mine from them, it has been a while and not sure of the part #.

Fix that asap. That simple looking problem can cause immense pain, particularly in your wallet. As you have seen, water coming in that spot can drain onto the aircleaner top. It will frequently then run into the aircleaner and through into the cylinders. That causes hydrolock. You don't want that.

Seal up the air filter hold down bolt for now.

Was able to get one ordered in. In the meantime I'm gonna clear caulk the screw area on the air cleaner.

Jasper beat me to it, but yeah gonna do that and put a piece of aluminum gutter to try and run any water away from my glow plug relay to the side of the engine so hopefully it doesn't get near there anyways.

Funny you post this, I was working on my glow plugs and did the same thing!!!!!

After looking at what's left of my bent plastic mess, I folded 4 pieces of black duct tape in half across the entire piece and was able to bend it kinda flat again without it falling apart. Was gonna hose the truck down to see if it worked for now but forgot before we left to go to the drive in movies tonight.

I keep meaning to make some kind of umbrella that goes over the entire air cleaner to keep water out. I hate trusting that hood weatherstripping and a rubber washer on the air cleaner bolt.

a fresh cowl seal goes a long way towards keeping engine fumes out of the cab also. The fumes leak up through there, and get sucked into the vents that feed the cab.

There is a small hole in the bottom of the soup bowl to drain any water that might get in there, just make sure it's open.

For those that are worried bout this seal failure do this. Cover the air filter can with a good thick trash bag. Cut it down to fit and duct tape it to the housing sides. How long it lasts depends on several things so keep an eye on it every time you open the hood to check oil & coolant levels. Protection wont come cheaper than this.

You can bend a rod if you try to start it thinking " Starter worked fine before that shower & now won't turn over" .

Been there/done that. Starter is unbelievably stout!!

Yeah, that's also where I bought mine...

I chalked mine at the top where the back of weatherstriping meets the cowl with clear silicone and have had no problems with it...

The bolt holes lined up perfectly too! Well made!
