best way to clean up your heater box?

my non AC heater box is in good shape, but not ascetically pleasing to install as its all cruddy looking.

i hit it with the pressure washer, but didnt come out the best.

what have you done to refurb these?

frankly, I couldn't tell you if the heater box is "asthetically pleasing" on my truck or not
it's a truck, it's old, it gets worked, and the paint color on my doors at this time is "surface rust with Wimbledon White trim"

since it's plastic, maybe scuff it good so it doesn't peel and spray it with a few coats of plasti-dip? Someday I'll have to yank the engine and then I might take pity on the engine bay....................

I just wiped mine off and hit it with some paint. I'm sure it's not adhered the best but it's not like it sees a ton of abuse.

Can also try brake clean and compressed air (watch the windscreen) if there's crud.

This as a base to pull a fiberglass mold( pre insulated) then smooth the outter shell???

X2 on the Plasti Dip I love that stuff just did my brush guard.

I'm thinking this is more of a permanent paint area. Lol

what about a thin diamond plate aluminum wrap? cut individual plates to fit and epoxy them in place, make it look like the whole thing is diamond plate

that would actually be pretty slick looking, but i cant bring myself to do it....
looks like im gonna use some adhesion promoter and some paint.

Yes I agree but I had a couple cans of Plasti dip so far it's holding up good
fixing to do my front and back bumper.

I ended up just taking some scotch brite
And dish soap To the heater box, and
It turned out ok.

I'm not a big fan of painting plastic.

Robbed some more parts off the 96 to give it a cleaner look
It didn't turn out too bad

Looks brand new.
Only thing I would do is try some peal and stick insulation on it.
I can feel it when mine starts to heat soak a little.
Guess I should do the heater core bypass valve also. Lol
