Wet carpet

I just noticed that after a rain the passenger foot well area underneath the glove box is slightly damp. The truck hasn't been driven, so it's draining in from somewhere. It's not by the door like an expired weather-strip, more like a leaking evap drain. But I haven't been running the AC.

Anyone else experienced this before? I suspect there is a drain under the panel immediately in front of the windshield? Maybe it's leaking? I'm about to start disassembling things hunting for the source.

im with IDIoit,pull the cowl and take a look,i also had to have a new heater core installed in bertha,im glad i have rubber mats make finding leaky stuff a lil easier

Nope, slick-top.

I'm hoping this is what it is. This or the heater core seal. Please no rust! I'm fixing to buy new glass front and rear.

No coolant smell. I just had this problem with my Honda. I'm *real* familiar that. No, this is just a barely discernible dampness and just smells like musty damp carpet.


Thanks for all the tips guys! I have a few specific points to check now. I hate just pulling stuff apart trying to find a problem. Inevitably I find the problem only to discover I did a bunch of un-needed work.

If the cowl seal under the hood is toast, and the core was replaced and NOT sealed inside to the firewall' there is your first spot, seal the 2 pipes coming out into the bay or pull the core an replace the strip under the hood.

Heater core? Check the heater box for wetness. Windshield leaks are also common on these trucks. Mine leaks and you can see (with trim removed) where the black goop has separated. Went to a glass shop the other day and they wanted nothing to do with it. Looks like I'll be learning how to install new glass soon.

I am of the notion that it is probably the heater core firewall seal. I get a wet floor every time I wash the truck or if it rains much. The hood seal will dump diverted water right on top of that area.

Another place to look is the seam sealer on the rain gutter (drip rail). Water can get into the truck through there, down the A-pillar, and....

We've had two trucks where the space between the inner cab wall in the footwell area and the fender gets filled up with leaves, crud, etc. There's a drain there, colloquially named for a certain anatomical part of a cow. When that area gets filled up, the drain is clogged, and water ends up in the cab.
