i have a 1991 7.3 n/a 2wd dually with a 4 1/2 inch stack. i have been hearing about and or reading about pyrometers and would like to install one. can i? and what do i need to buy/ install to do this? step by step would be nice maybe. thank you in advance
First use SEARCH there's ton's of info on the site regarding pyros and so forth and where to install. You may even find a step by step.
As for purchase, gauges are a personal choice, ISSPRO are top shelf and can be had at Connestoga Diesel. Of course there are other brands SW, Auto Meter, and so on to name a couple.
You will need a Pyro of choice, and probe with enough lead to reach the gauge, a drill bit and tap to match the Pyro's probe size.
Most drill and tap a hole in the exhaust manifold in a location that's easy to reach close to the outlet...buwa ha ha ha ha...as if there is one! Then install the probe and feed wires carefully back and into the cabin area, don't forget a grommet to seal the hole and help stop chaffing of the wires. Then connect to gauge in your preferred location and done!
