I have been searching for.a few days now and am curious if anyone has installed any online fuel filters on the frame rail? I got a set up off an old Ford dump truck just curious to see some pics of how they did it and if there's any tricks. It looks like fuel injector line so I don't know if I can cut that and splice in somehow or not? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i have done a fuel rail mounted setup with dual filters. this is on my twin turbo cummins in my f250. seems to work good. i still have the head mounted filter as well. if i remember right it goes through a 15 micron baldwin water separator then through a 2 micron cat filter. then the filter on the head is 15?. heres a pic.

Mine is something similar to that but it uses two wix 33915 filters i think? how did you plumb it in? Did you use the stock fuel injection line stuff or?

nothing is stock in my truck. I run a carter fuel pump right before the filter setup and it is all rubber line to the head.

On the Enterprise I moved the factory filter head to under the drivers door - cleaned up the under hood quite a bit.

Several ways you can do this:
1) cut the plastic line at a suitable location, slip hose over it and clamp it and feed the hose to the filters, then remove the other piece of plastic line and from the filters run another hose to the steel line on the frame where the plastic line you just removed was.
2) remove the entire plastic line from the quick-connect fitting on the tank selector valve (careful razor blade action required) and from the steel line, the run a hose from TSV fitting to the filters and again another hose from the filters to the steel line.

Your filters are likely Wix 33195 (NAPA 3195) and are 10-micron filters, if you have 2 of them inline I'd suggest that your replace the one closer to the tank w/ a coarser filter - give Wix 33472 (NAPA 3472) a try, it's 14-micron filter w/ built-in water separator and it should fit the heads you have well (test it tho, don't just take my word for it). In the off chance you're running a pair of Wix 33519s (NAPA 3519) that's a 12-micron filter, and you can possibly use a Wix 33616 (NAPA 3616) 20-micron water separator as a primary for it.

Yes it's the 33195 Filter i will go buy a wix 33472 or napa 3472 and see how it works. Aren't the two filters essentially the same minus the brand name? this stuff never makes sense to me.... Thanks for the info though! I'll let ya'll know how it works i'm gonna try to get after it tomorrow.

I just did the same thing to free up space and add a bit of flow. It worked, of course long ago I drilled out the OEM filter head to 3/8 pipe so it flowed more,Now it is mounted underneath and a AC secondary filter is in the OEM filter location on the engine with a Wix 33120 filter.

So now I have two large style filters instead of one small HPG1 Fram and the OEM.
Should filter plenty of fuel before clogging up.

I plan on removing the front tank and purchasing a 40 gallon rear tank and add two larger filters in the front tank location to be gravity fed by the 40 gallon tank.

As of today my system is working good, unbelivable how little fuel the IDI will run on, I just replaced a 10 yr old holley pump that worked but just no volume with a fresher one that pumps steady pressure to keep the IDI fed.
well getting tired had a full day.

The stock 7.3 filter head has a 3/8 line going in to it I thought but a 5/16 going out of it to the injection pump. Or am I wrong about the inlet fitting size...:dunno:angel: Well hell... Looks like I'm wrong on both accounts. It appears to be 1/4 in inlet and outlets fitting size. I do know the tube in size is 3/8 and the outlet tube size is 5/16... That I do know..

Just too dang small for our hairdryer IDIs get out the drill and drill baby drill!

Everything on my truck fuel delivery is oversized cause cold WMO dont like to move like a ice skater.
I did revamp the whole fuel system while running the fuel station clear stuff, and the issues I had were
alot less with the new system.

Now The issues are even less with all the small updates along the way, like the switched role for the filter/water sep

So I finally got around to doing this filter set up I hope it catches a lot of the junk before it gets to the main filter head. My only concern is with running wmo/wvo will I have to change them more often? And does the sensor on the filter head only pick up that one when it starts getting clogged?or is it based off fuel pressure comung out of the filter head? Just curious... I'll try and take some pics tomorrow as well! Thanks for everyones input on this

Generally speaking the low pressure signal is only picked up on the outlet of the fuel filter but. If the filters you installed plug up that will extend the low pressure all the way to the factory filter and to the injection pump. Now your issue will be which of the three filters is dirty. The first, the second or the factory filter. Now if you could install the low pressure switch just after each filter and be able to switch power to each one at a time that will tell you which filter is plugged up. Or run them all hot all the time and make up a warning panel on the dash listing what filter is showing a problem.
