you have a smoke issue with your banks? man,i have nothing at all out back.not even before my recent intercooler i mean.
i had factory,banks recommended 9.5 lbs under hard load too.

well ok,i don't have a hot pump.not even a turbo calibrated one yet........and probably not close to maxed either at that lol.

Also, once max boost is hit, any throttle after that is a haze, I'd rather it be an even boost/fuel than cloud-clear-haze-cloud-shift-repeat.

Got it installed, and set to hypermax spec. Installation went smooth, took about 45 minutes. Will tinker with the settings some through the week and give feedback this weekend coming up

I sell the Hypermax smoke puff limiter, and it is an available option on our Moose pumps for Fords. When we build one for a customer, it goes on from the beginning and gets calibrated on the calibration bench along with the rest of the pump. I highly recommend them for guys who have opacity testing in their state inspection program.

I'm quite curious about this and if it could actually be dyno tested/proven as a viable upgrade, in as much as eliminating excess fuel actually produces more power?

Would this be an easy remove and replace on the dyno where one could check it out and tune it?

Mostly curious about it's effects on power and mileage, not as much a concern to me is the actual smoke elimination but if you do get more power and more mileage and less smoke...that's WIN WIN in my books.

From what ive heard, on racing diesels by gale banks, its faster because the burn is more efficient. In our trucks we have a much lower power output so any effects could be minor, but the efficiency could be real sweet.

Less sooty stuff and more efficient burn. Definitely interested in one myself even though we don't have testing here (yet).

My pump isn't actually from DPS, it's from the guy that was doing the pumps for Ken while Ken claimed to be doing the work. I made the order through DPS, never heard back from him, then found out he got 'boycotted' by his own pump guy, whom had my pump and luckily was honest enough to find my information, Ken got <0 money from me in the end.

I'd like to talk to that guy as Ken was less than honest with me and I'd really like to know why my "Turbo cal" pump was not a Turbo cal pump (which is what I paid for and thought I was getting).


Like Robert said, most IP's have an aeroniod (smoke puff limiter) as an intergral part of the pump. My DT466 MW Bosch pump has one and it connects via a hard line to the intake manifold. Keep up posted on the results man. Heard about these for years for these DB2's, just never seen much from anyone using one.

Spent 2 hours tuning it using the adjust, drive, adjust drive, adjust method, and have it adjusted to where it's going to stay, unless I get access to a dyno, then I'll tune my wastegate, and this at the same time.

As for removal and installation for dyno testing, that's unnecessary, because this adjusts EASY from 'no effect' to 'truck won't idle', so you can make adjustments on the fly in about 2 minutes.

As for mileage, after I got it adjusted, I did my trip to and from work the way I normally do, and netted 2 mpg better than my usual average (today:19mpg) with no change in driving habits or route.

As for power, I can't verify any gain or loss, but it definitely feels a lot snappier, and it made the transmission's shifts less slippery feeling, I assume because it cuts out fuel immediately when lack of boost occurs.

As for anything Hypermax, Banks, Mel, and Russ are concerned, I'll gladly be the guinea pig for this group, so long as expenses allow, and I feel like the old truck can handle it. They have all proven themselves to me.

Well as was mentioned, these kinds of devices are very common, especially on pumps for newer vehicles. The theory behind the thing is very simple. There is a vacuum or boost operated diaphragm which moves a blocking tang in or out of the linear path of the governor where it hits the metering valve. There is no additive function of the device. In other words, it doesn't cause your pump to supply MORE fuel. All it really can do is cause it to supply LESS. The only reason it may seem to influence power and economy, is because it essentially makes sure there is enough air to burn the fuel you are throwing at it.
