Help with rewireing block heater plug end

Alright so the end of my block heater plug "the end that you plug into extension cord" wire is frayed. I did a bit of research and found that you can get a new end from home depot etc. And that you cut the wire out of the old plug and rewire them to the new end. Should i unplug the wire from the heater core or will it be okay to leave it plugged in and replace the end while its still hooked into the block heater? Answers asap will be great so i can stop on my way home from work and pick up a plug end!

If you are just replacing the plug that plugs into an extension cord, it should be just like replacing an end of a cord in the house. No power to it, no problem. I would try to replace it with something that is at least water resistant as it is exposed to the elements!!

alright so I should unplug it from the block heater also then just incase. any idea how it comes out of the block heater?

okay does it matter what kind it is, or just as long as its a 3 prong male head. and does the amp/ voltage matter?

I've done the same in 2 of my trucks. The middle cord is neutral the other 2 go directly to into the replacement plug. I got a weather proof plug and filled the end of it with silicone just in case.

Another option is the reversed plug that big rigs use of their bumpers then you can adapt a cord to work or buy one with double male ends.

No, the batteries are not connected to the heater.

I your block heaters have colored wires? That isn't fair!

lol i got it replaced. I dont no if its actually working though wont be able to tell till morning :/. and yeah the one wires green and the other to are just black, thank god cuz i dont have a ohm meter nor no anything abot electicty minus changing out wall sockets and ceiling fans lol, thank you guys for your help i appreciate it, truck goes in tomorrow to get some things fixed and looked at

I recently did this with a $3 plug from Ace. I have big box of all different sizes of heat shrink so that is what I used to weather proof it. Worked great.

Well not sure it worked, hood didnt feel that warm this morning, my mechanics going to take a look at all of it today so hopefully its just minor and its just the wires.
