I have a fuel pressure gauge mounted under the hood, directly on the fuel filter housing. See the picture below.
I think that the placement is not right. I believe that I am measuring the pressure going into the filter, ie the pressure from the pump. What I think I should be measuring is the pressure coming out of the filter, the pressure going into the IP. That way I can tell better when the filter needs to be replaced.
I have three ports I can attach a gauge to: 1)the front port, where the schraeder valve is and where the gauge is shown mounted, 2)the middle port, the return line port, 3) the rear port, which I think powers the "Replace Fuel Filter" idiot light.
I think I should have mounted the gauge on the rear port. I could still retain the idiot light output by mounting that on the 't' currently holding the schraeder valve.
