i have been thinking about making an intake that will do away with the restriction of the factory box.

I tried to make it in solid works but it was not going good.....so i moved my ideas over to microsoft paintLOL.

just imagine this in 3.5-4 tubing. I was thinking along the lines of this...
come off the turbo with a 90 deg, then mabey a 22 deg bend, then some straight, that should get me close to the a/c comp. then i was thinking from there kind of angle it down and forward with a 45 deg, then finish it off with a cone filter. i has thinking that the filter would sit next to the a/c lines by the drivers side battery if room permits.

I have found that spectra makes all kinds of different angles that i would be able to peice together to make something. They even come in shiny pollished alluminum:sly:D.

I think 3.5 inch tubing would be a little better as far as room under the hood goes, but i don't know what kind of performance difference there would be 3.5 vs. 4.:dunno

Any input/other ideas would be great.

Im not sure, I did however have the smaller cone version of that filter and it really seemed to bog things down as in not getting enough air, but the one you linked to is bigger than the one I had, so it may work.

Whats wrong with the tried and true 6637 Napa filter? Sure you need some modification to fit it...but the PSD guys have been running them for years with great results.

I too have it actually...although routed differently...

Definitely a noticeable difference over the old stock canister!

This is what I did, it only requires flipping the fuel filter mount (very easy), and it is a 4" intake. As an upside it gives you room to put on an aftermarket filter setup if you want...I have a filter head off an old International bulldozer on there now with a 2 micron filter. (I really need a new picture)

I'm sure they do but I never got the box enclosure done for the filter. I started on it but just never finished it.
