So, I decided to sell my RV and bought a pull behind travel trailer. My idea was to buy a small cheap trailer or fifth wheel for the twice a year that we go to the river.
Well.........lol my wife being the person she is, wanted big and newer. We ended up with a year old 32 foot bumper pull and it’s been all downhill from there.
My truck doesn’t like pulling it! I just brought it back to Vegas this morning from Utah where I store it and I could not keep this truck cool enough on any little hill. One hill I hit 240 and it’s not even hot as heck here yet.
I wrote in a thread a couple weeks ago, “let’s talk fan clutch.” I’m currently running with the fan clutch locked on, newer motor craft water pump, new motorcraft thermostat and a brand new spectra radiator that I installed last week.
We’re leaving for havasu Thursday and it’s supposed to be 110 degrees. I see no way that this thing will make it. I just ordered a champion 3 row this morning in hopes that it will cool better. Between watching pyros, temp gauges and crappy fuel mileage, I’m half tempted to go out and buy myself a newer gasser.
My fuel is not set too high and my timing is pretty dead on.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

By the way, the guy at champion could not tell me if the 3 row would cool better than my 2 row spectra. It better, or I’m up ***** creek

So fed ex just dropped off the new 3 row champion I ordered yesterday. I guess I’ll throw it in and go from there.

Do you have an electric fuel pump? If yes, what kind? I found my timing was so inconsistent with my facet that power/egts didnt change much even when I changed the timing quite a bit. Now with a Ford OEM mechanical lift pump the difference is amazing and the timing matters a LOT. Sounds like your timing is still too retarded to me given your set of variables. 1-2* can make a big difference.

A charge air cooler will help a lot too. Too short notice for this weekend but it's a great addition.

I hate to ask but did you boil your thermostat before installing? Could be only opening part-way. It's not common for a motorcraft stat but things happen.

Oh! Now that you have two perfectly good radiators just run an auxiliary hose to the second one in the bed and add some big electric fans!!! Buahahahahahaha!!!

When I lived In southern Utah I had a few rigs I just pulled the thermostat out in the summer my idi would run about 180 all day and never change I feel it helped a bunch when it was 115* out and I had some weight behind it

My Dad used to pull stats out also. It seems like that’s an age old argument with people. Some say it works and some say it moves too much water and can’t cool properly. I’d love to know the real deal on that someday

I’m still on the mechanical pump and had intended to convert but never did. I told my 14 year old he can have the truck when he turns 16. I’ll let him worry about all that fun stuff.
