Hey guys,

I haven't been driving this truck a lot since I got the Jeep.

I went to drive it and unloaded it seems to be running warmer than it used to. The fan never used to come on unloaded.

It also seems like it might not be running as smooth as it used to, but that might just be me getting used to the Jeep....

Any input? Hasn't sat a lot but has only been driven maybe once a week. Should I try ATF in the filter first?

I'm only "worried" because of the mileage on the injectors. I'll give the ATF a shot.

the ATF is worth a try, these engines dont seem to like to run light and sit a while. i swear after running a heavy load and getting them good and hot helps to settle them in and let them run better.

Well it's still running a little hot, I'm hoping to change the thermostat this weekend.

Has anyone had an exhaust so full of soot that it causes problems? I'm pretty sure judging by the stamping this exhaust might be factory. Being a southern truck I'm sure it's possible. If the thermostat doesn't help is it worth looking into?

i have never heard of the exhaust manifolds being clogged, maybe the muffler is full of soot but not the manifolds.

do you have a cheap temp gun to see how well the radiator is working? the top vs bottom temperature numbers when it is hot.

it also might be worth double checking the gauge.

Bang on the muffler and see if it sounds solid. The one I took off my parts truck weighed a ton. It was a ford oem. May have been original to the truck.

I didn't mean manifolds, I was talking about the muffler although I didn't directly specify.

I can probably use the IR thermometer at work. Radiator appears relatively new.

I'm pretty sure it does weigh a ton or two... My hangers are broken near the back and it's HEAVY to lift up to wire up. I need to fix it right at some point. I'll try hitting it and see how full it feels.

If you want stock hangers, I have a complete NA exhaust including the tail pipe.

You must be registered for see images attach

I think this thread needs some input from @no mufflers LOL

You can stick a hose in the tailpipe with the truck a bit lower on the driver side and flush a lot of soot out. You dont want to do this in your driveway, but they used to do this at the dealership back in the day as apart of a tuneup for a low power complaint, but really the stock exhaust is just too undersized for our engines. I bet you will pick up at least one mpg on your trip going with a straight through tractor supply muffler or one of the larger big truck mufflers. Other than adding a turbo, upgrading the stock exhaust system on an na engine is about the biggest performance upgrade you can do.

Excellent idea Wes! I gotta try that soon. I tapped on my 30 year old muffler and it sounds solid as a rock. Been think of putting a straight through muffler or glass pack. Dont know about the droning noise with the glass pack... Hopefully I can find a turbo muffler to drop in

Hmm.... I might take you up on that, I'll let you know.

Trust me, if I had the money I'd have bought that turbo kit from you and put it on when I get there! It's pretty high on the list but the money only goes so far sadly.

look man you just gotta cut that muffler outta there. you'll get your horse ponies back, better MPGs and all dat flow gone make everyting run coola.

LOL I was definitely thinking about running a glass pack for now. NA with straight pipes just isn't going to cut it for me. I really want to get a "rotary exhaust to horsepower converter" instead of a muffler!

everything's better with no mufflers LOL

Why do I get the distinct impression you use some version of that line with the ladies LOL
