how did the tdc and drive gear deal turn out,,, 18+_ degrees seems like a lot of swing considering the short 6.9 lines,,, cracking em loose and reclocking could help.
,,,gotta load the boat,,,brb
Anyhow I gotta make it right if I blew it.

This note about timing with any Kent Moore J33300 or the J33300-A meters. If you actually see the timing in degrees at 2000 rpm telling you its MINUS 4 or 8 or 10 degrees or any degrees. Then you are showing the engine is timed AFTER TOP DEAD CENTER. The minus mark on the meter is telling you this. If there is no mark showing. Just degrees of timing then its advanced. So there you have it. We collectively found this dilemma and fixed it. Brian your truck is retarded on the timing. Figure each 1/16th inch movement of the pump equals about 2 1/2 degrees or 3 degrees. You have some marks made this I know. As for being hell to move the pump just loosen as many hard lines that are easy to reach on the back of the pump. The bottom of the pump lines just loosen at the injectors. That pump will move easy now I guarantee it.

Glad that mystery is solved. Here you had us all guessing at the remotest possibilities, when the answer was staring you in the face all the time. It's strange how we can overlook the obvious and hunt for the most complicated.

Gary, you're going to have to rewrite your instructions when you send a meter out.

You know, I'm the one with Gary's meter now and would have totally made the same mistake when I do mine tomorrow. Hooray for lurking in this thread! Aren't easy solutions the best??

i moved it from -9.9 about 1/2 an inch!
