Yeh, Sad Day. Rare IDI E Gone.

Off to the wrecking yard. Broadsided April 30th, then swerved into a sturdy concrete wall. She drove up onto the tow truck today. 12 good years, lots of work, but learned a lot. Many happy, clattery miles. Was going to give up on OB, but now I think my experience and knowledge may help...

Glowplug Yellow Wire Bypass... What Size Fuse?

Yeh, the glowplug wires melted their end of the big connector. Been living dangerously, with no fuse, #6 wire, battery to GP relay. Anyone know off hand what size mega fuse I should use to protect this big circuit? TIA

    Not-Charging Frustration

Howdy, all. Been a while, again. Fine, so, vacuum booster failed, and brake fluid bad, so replaced booster and MC. Bleeding took forever. As soon as I started her up, the factory volt gauge read low, like 10.5 volts. Multimeter showed 12.5 or so. Tested batteries, one bad. Replaced. Charged...

Thought It Was Belt Drive, but YIKES!

Hello, All. A couple weeks ago, started hearing a metallic sound or slippy belt. Became more metallic. Just now, removed flywheel cover (E4OD) and checked convertor bolts. All good. Then removed fan and clutch, then one belt at a time. No change, in fact it's getting louder! Mighty scared...

    A (Minor) New Year's Mystery

Happy New Year, IDI crew! Haven't had much to share here lately... will stop in here more often in 2020. On my IDI E350, recently heard a scary tinky/clacky sound from up front. Fan hitting aluminum radiator? YIKES? Nope, fan far from radiator, and not wobbly. No slippy belts. On my third...

    Current Beru Sourcing Challenge

Greetings, All. Yeh, yeh, been a while since I've been on here. My bad! You gents have a source for Berus, other than the place on eBay? OK, got a set of Beru glowers about a year ago, on eBay. Loved them, till one is now failing in the colder weather. Went back to eBay today, but Paypal...

Pesky Fuel Leak.... How to Proceed ------

Need to visit y'all more often than just when I have a problem.... <hangs head> OK. Fuel leaking, mostly during short morning freeway runs. Went to my buddy's place last weekend - about 50 miles - with almost no leaks, as I ran only 35-45 the whole way, off-freeway. Then, put in ear plugs and...

Doing Things Right? Still short GP Cycle. Whut thuh?

GENTLEMEN! Long time no type at... or no visit this site. My bad. Just been driving the van, with issues slowly mounting. OK, suddenly GP cycle goes short. Been here, fixed this before. Checked unplugged continuity of all plugs; two tested bad. Replaced. (Bosch, BTW). Still short cycle...

    E4OD Shenanigans

Been away from this board for a while. Too damn many (non-Ford) project vehicles.... So, yeah, E4OD does intermittent slips in 3rd and 4th, higher RPMs. Not raising revs enough to say it's an attempted downshift, and not enough to feel the power back off from forward speed. Pulls fluid from...

    Wrong 3G Pulley? Now What?

Hiya, fellas. Been seriously distracted by another (very different) project vehicle lately.. My van has dealt well with the 1-hour trip to that vehicle, until the alt light has been showing up lately. OK, cheap alternator.... my bad. Installed a Delco reman from Rock Auto today. Wrong, shallow...

    Vacuum Pump Pulley Puzzle

Got busy in recent months on another project vehicle.... my IDI van is jealous and wants attention! :dunno OK, vac pump must be going intermittent ('03 date code... ya think?LOL) -- brake warning light and hard pedal. New Motorcraft pump from RockAuto in hand. (V-belt one, BTW) But the...

Source for Quality Power Steering Pumps?

OK, so I jumped into the Red-Head steering gear buy on another thread here. Since I also have new hoses waiting, I'd like to replace my oldish Saginaw pump at the same time, for a clean circuit. Looked up this pump online, with little results. Apparently Ford changed the van pump as of 1/92...

Hose to Lift Pump: How Did They Do This?

So, before I put this hose back in, I am obsessed with learning this answer.... Lift pump died a few years ago, and the fleet shop I deal with did the change. The hose from the crossmember/tank line that connects to the lift pump was changed at that time. Don't know about you F-truck...

Finally got lift pump changed. Runs, now ABS light on and dead speedometer?

Did also change the alternator and the hard supply line to the fuel filter......... but how did that whack my electricals? Electronic odometer is visible, but didn't seem to advance in my trips around the block. E4OD also seems a bit confused. Only goes into 2nd when I put the selector...

ANOTHER E4OD Thread? Rebuilt, Sat a Year, Now.....

Slow to build pressure from a cold start? Both forward and reverse requires 15? 20? seconds to start moving when cold. Trans shop will be checking it out soon, but I'm hoping for some opins from y'all before then..... Yep, this is the trans that stopped suddenly before rebuild ("Suddenly...

#1 Injector line Doesn't Line Up???

OK, Put my Baby Moose into position. All the line fittings line up with the injector tops, except #1. Same lines and injectors that fit and ran a few weeks ago. Line clamps weren't opened. The only thing that changed is the IP. What obviously simple thing did I miss here? :dunno:dunno:dunno

    Yesterday: B20... Today: DieselHPR ??

Yup, drove by the station where I used to get B20 (when my van ran... a while ago), and today they're promoting a new product they now sell instead: DieselHPR. Since van won't be running until I get a Baby Moose from Mel :D , I have no interest in this, but anyone else heard of...

Finally Reassembled and Running.... WHOA! BIG FUEL LEAK!

Yep, FINALLY got the "Chuffland" and "Suddenly No Propulsion" (previous threads) van going again. (HUGE thanks to member Hydro-idi for much awesome advice along the way ;Sweet;Sweet;Sweet; ) But, moments after startup, a serious dribble of fuel comes down the valley pan. I mean, running it...

Mortified... Engine Turned, Converter Turned, Together NOT?

Yep, the "Adventures in Chuffland" engine and "Suddenly No Propulsion" E4OD are finally back in the van, but aren't playing well together. When engine was out, all was well; crank turned. When I was lining up the converter studs, the converter turned. I've put on 2 nuts on the studs and...

    Stubborn Harmonic Balancer -- Suggestions?

Howdy, fellas...... Doing the front main seal and replacing orig balancer while engine's still out.... Was foolish enough to try the Horror Fright cheapie puller, and bent the heck out of it, with only a tiny bit of progress. Recommendations for a better puller, that I won't break??

Fuel? Leaking from Exhaust Manifold Bolt Holes?

Yeah, had like 3 leaky injectors on this head, but wasn't expecting my bolts to be soaked when I took them out. Huh?

    Plz Clue Me on Precups......

Could have brought this up on my current thread about chuffing, but split it off to a new thread: Had my heads "fully reconditioned" 1½ yrs ago. I knew what precups do, and that they are made of that magical Inconel alloy. At that time, I was told that 1 of my precups was cracked, and it was...

Denso? Mitsubishi? Where Do I Start?

Gonna take my Mitsubishi starter in to be checked, while my engine's out. I read through a thread from a year ago: http://www.oilburners.net/forums/showthread.php?61885-Straight-drive-starter-or-Gear-reduction-What-s-the-concensus Giving newer people a chance to chime in: Would it be...

Thud! Thud! (It's a Van Thing)

Got my engine out, but.... Missed the sweet spot on my chain by a link or two... engine stayed VERY level. After jacking up front of engine to get oil pan onto the crossmember, the engine slid back inward (TWICE!), resulting in the balancer landing on the crossmember with a pretty decent hit...
